While Johannes Roberts’ directed Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, based on the Japanese video game of the same name and serving as a reboot of the Resident film series is all set to release in theatres on 24th November, film director Johannes Roberts who previously helmed movies like 47 Meters Down for which he is most known among the mainstream audiences and media, while recently having a conversation with Entertainment Weekly opened up about his desire to explore the various aspects and elements from one of the most popular action-horror games Resident Evil, in his film.

"I'm a horror guy. I'm a Stephen King guy. I'm a John Carpenter guy. All those things are sort of built into the fabric of this movie, I was just like, 'Let's make a scary movie again,'" Roberts told Entertainment Weekly, explaining that his upcoming Resident Evil movie has tried to capture the horror aspect from the iconic game.

He added, elaborating that while all the different games in the Resident Evil franchise has their own specialty in regards to the kind of horror it subscribes to but his Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is majorly inspired by Resident Evil 2, which really resonated with him in a way that no other one had in the past because of its unique aesthetics and tone. "I remember playing that second game and going, 'This is the movie. This is it,'" the filmmaker added. "It just blew me away completely. The aesthetics of it, the tone, the mood. I was like, 'This is the cornerstone of what we're going to do.'"

"I think [Welcome to Raccoon City] sets everything up really well, an origin story for each of our characters," he said. "I think it would be really important to me that we don't just use this as a springboard to then just go off into our own crazy world. I think there's so much in the games that is so fascinating and exciting that I would really love to continue to explore that,” the filmmaker continued, touching upon the fact that the film stands out in a major way as it will set the stage up for future standalone films for each character in the movie, expanding the film series, for which he says he all is open for.
