Rihanna is opening up about her pregnancy and her relationship with A$AP Rocky.
Rihanna recently appeared on the cover story of Vogue, and during the interview with Chioma Nnadi, the singer got candid about her pregnancy, relationship with A$AP Rocky, and how the pregnancy has made her feel. And her music!
Rihanna and A$AP Rocky not only shook the world with their relationship status but also with their pregnancy announcement, and during the interview, she explained that she and her partner had been friends for a long time and they took their own time to get out of the friend zone and get to know each other well.
Rihanna explained that the pandemic helped in strengthening their relationship as A$AP Rocky became her family at the time and explained that in 2020, both of them took a road trip in the summer from Los Angeles to New York on a big tour bus. She explained that she admires simple things but also grand adventures, and there is no pretentiousness between the two of them, before adding that she can do any part of life with him beside her.
The singer mentioned during the interview that she loves that there is absolute transparency between her and A$AP Rocky about how they feel, their goals, fears, and insecurities, to name a few. Rihanna added that the vulnerability of being able to say what they feel about one another is what she loves about them. She also talked about the time when A$AP Rocky accompanied her to Barbados to meet her family and explained that her mother has a really good read on people, and she observes first, then she’ll moves slowly. Rihanna added that her mother was charmed by A$AP Rocky.
Rihanna stated during the interview that while A$AP Rocky was born and raised in Harlem, his roots trace back to Barbados, and seeing him in a space where he is imagining his father as a boy, walking down the same streets his father once walked, eating the same food, was a heartwarming experience for Rihanna. She was happy for him that he gets to experience this with her.
Talking about the pregnancy, Rihanna mentioned that it was not planned but they did not plan against it. She explained that they were just having fun when they were together and that it was just there on the test and she did not waste any time in informing A$AP and the next morning, Rocky accompanied the singer to the doctor’s office, and their journey towards parenthood began. The Vogue interviewer asked Rihanna if she was going to have a gender reveal party, to which she said that when they will be ready to tell the world, they will.
Rihanna stated during the interview that she and her team are hoping to redefine what is considered "decent" for pregnant women. She was dressed in a sports body-hugging fire engine red floral pattered Alaïa bodysuit, with matching gloves and shoes, for the Paris chat. Rihanna added that her body is doing incredible things right now and she is not going to be ashamed of it. Instead, she is going to celebrate it in every way possible.
The Diamonds singer said that the experience of being pregnant is surreal because she mentioned that as much as it’s happening, it’s also not happening and added that sometimes she walks past her reflection and is like "Oh shit." Talking more about her pregnancy, she added that when she found out that she was expecting, she thought to herself that there was no way she was going to shop for maternity clothes, rather she was going to dress up just the way she had been because she did not want that part to disappear just because her body was changing.
The singer also talked about her pregnancy cravings and shared that she had a sudden jones for desserts and she loves chocolate-covered donuts and tangerines sprinkled with salt because, as she explained, in Barbados, people take fruits to the ocean and soak them, and she added, "Trust me, it’s really a thing". According to the interview, Rihanna looked happy throughout the interview and was loving every second of her pregnancy. She mentioned that she has not yet started shopping for baby clothes yet.
The Fenty Beauty founder mentioned that when she started her pregnancy journey, she just thought that she would end up suffering from morning sickness like her mother, but to her surprise, she has not had any. The singer has had mood swings that are easily manageable than she expected and added that she was bracing herself for something insane because she had to refrain from her usual coping mechanism, which is to smoke a joint, but she was surprised to see herself managing things but added that some social media posts trigger her.
Rihanna mentioned that postpartum depression is something that scares her, and when she listens to the stories of other women going through it, that scares her more. The singer added that childcare is also one of the things she and A$AP Rocky think a lot about and eventually thought of asking her mother and his mother to help. Where are they going to raise the little one? The couple was thinking about it, and Rihanna mentioned that she has a business to run as well.
The audience is waiting for the singer to drop some music, which she explained that she would be working on, and it’s going to be different from the way she had wanted to put it out before. She said it’s authentic and fun for her.
