'Love boat Taipei' is based on Abigail Hing Wen's New York Times best-selling novel of the same name. It will be directed by Arvin Chen, and Ross Butler and Abigail Hing Wen will serve as executive producers.

Ashley Liao's character, Ever Wong, has her summer turned upside down when her parents surprise her with a trip to Taipei for a cultural immersion program. While Ever wants to spend her summer working toward her passion, dance, she is taken aback when she realizes she hasn't signed up for schoolwork or history classes, but for a summer-long free-for-all known as "Love boat" by the locals and other students.

It swiftly lives up to its name when Ever must choose between two handsome but opposed boys vying for her attention, while also mustering the resolve to reject her parents' lofty expectations and pursue her genuine passion: dance.

Ross Butler will play Rick Woo, a dashing young man nicknamed 'Boy Wonder'by the besotted Ever. Rick is a well-known athletic and academic prodigy who has yet to meet his match... until he meets her.

The story of Love boat, Taipei is inspired by author Abigail Hing Wen's own experience as a teenager on the Love boat program. HarperTeen, a HarperCollins children's book subsidiary, released the New York Times Bestselling novel in January 2020. Sharing her thoughts on her novel being adapted into a film, Abigail Hing Wen said, "These past few months have been a dream to watch this cast fill out. I’m thrilled to have the incredibly talented Ashley and Ross take the lead in bringing Ever and Rick from the pages of my story to the screen, and to have Chelsea and Nico on board as well. I can’t wait to see sparks fly as these four pal around Taipei, and for everyone to meet the amazing ensemble and magic still to come. "
