On 22nd October 2021, Variety reported Greta Gerwig and Warner Bros. and Mattel Film have found their Ken for their upcoming movie, "Barbie", alongside Margot Robbie. Margot is not only going to star as 'Barbie', but she is also producing the movie under her LuckyChap Entertainment Company, which is coming off an Oscar-winning run for last year’s "Promising Young Woman".

According to Deadline, Ryan Gosling is in his final negotiations to play the role of Ken. It has also been reported that, initially, Ryan passed on the offer of playing Ken, but the pre-production dragged out, and the studio remained persistent on Ryan as Ken as opposed to Margot as Barbie.

Two-time Oscar nominee Greta Gerwig, who is known for her exceptional, critically acclaimed movies, co-wrote ‘Barbie’with Noah Baumbach, and with Ryan Gosling being locked up as Ken, the filming of the movie could see a green light and start shooting at the top of 2022. There hasn’t been much revealed about the plot of the movie, but Greta’s phenomenal track record gives the audience hope of "Barbie" making its way into a successful movie.

As mentioned, that Margot is going to produce the movie under her LuckyChap Entertainment Company along with LuckyChap’s Tom Ackerley, Mattel’s Robbie Brenner, and David Heyman. LuckyChap’s Josey McNamara and Mattel’s Ynon Kreiz are executive producers. The doll, Ken, most recently appeared in the "Toy Story" franchise, voiced by Michael Keaton in "Toy Story 3".

There have been various attempts and plans to adapt the story of "Barbie" for the big screen, but none of those ever worked out until Margot Robbie, Greta Gerwig, and Noah Baumbach teamed up in 2018 and 2019. The team plans to release the movie in 2023.

Margot said, "When I was trying to make my name as an actress, creative roles for women were limited. I didn't want to pick up another script where I was the wife or the girlfriend—just a catalyst for the male storyline. It was uninspiring. Playing with Barbie promotes confidence, curiosity, and communication throughout a child's journey to self-discovery. I'm so honored to take on this role and produce a film that I believe will have a tremendously positive impact on children and audiences worldwide."

In an interview with British Vogue, the actress shared, "People generally hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be,’ and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, well, maybe I don't'.". She will also star in Wes Anderson's next feature film, Asteroid City, and will play actress Clara Bow in Damien Chazelle's Babylon.

Ryan Gosling will star alongside Chris Evans in the Netflix action film "The Gray Man," which is directed by the Russo Brothers. Ryan Gosling plays Court Gentry, a seasoned CIA officer who is forced to become a fugitive after being betrayed, in the film, which is based on Mark Greaney's 2009 novel of the same name. In the high-stakes cat and mouse game, Chris Evans plays opposite Ryan Gosling.

After starring opposite Harrison Ford in "Blade Runner 2049," Ryan Gosling recently appeared as renowned astronaut Neil Armstrong in "First Man." The Oscar nominations for the Canadian actor came from the films "Half Nelson" from 2006 and "La La Land" from 2016. He recently signed his first brand collaboration deal with Tag Heuer.
