A new report indicates that Marvel Studios Shang-Chi and The Legend of Ten Rings has a big role in the settlement between the media company Walt Disney and actress Scarlett Johansson. Shang-Chi's box office performance is reportedly a big factor in Disney's weakening position on the matter and its settlement with Johansson regarding the lawsuit she filed in July. Based on reports and sources by Puck News, Disney studio's position on the lawsuit was weakened on the lawsuit when its latest film Shang-Chi and The Legend of Ten Rings, starring Asian actor Simu Liu, Fala Chen, Benedict Wong, Michelle Yeoh, and Ben Kingsley, earned a total of $94.7 million on the box office in just first four days of its release on 3rd September 2021, clearly outperforming the Black Widow in terms of box office collection. The huge difference between the box office collection of Shang-Chi and Black Widow due to the release of Johansson film on Disney+ platform definitely added a lot of pressure on media giant Disney to agree to the "key deal terms" of Johansson's lawsuit.

The Marvel actor Scarlett Johansson sued media conglomerate The Walt Disney Company back in July this year for intentional interference with contractual relations and inducing a breach of contract.

According to Johansson, the media company breached the agreements of the contract policy with the release of her superhero film Black Widow simultaneously on the Disney+ platform and theatres.

Based on the documents and reports submitted by Johansson, the lawsuit states that "Why would Disney forgo hundreds of millions If dollars in box office receipts by releasing the Picture in theaters at a time when it knew the theatrical market was ‘weak,' rather than waiting a few months for that market to recover?"

"On information and belief, the decision to do so was made at least in part because Disney saw the opportunity to promote its flagship subscription service using the Picture and Ms. Johansson, thereby attracting new paying monthly subscribers, retaining existing ones, and establishing Disney+ as a must-have service in an increasingly competitive marketplace."

After the news of Johansson's lawsuit against Disney made headlines around the world, several reports were being circulated all around the social media platforms claiming that the 32-year-old Cruella actress Emma Stone and Emily Blunt, who leads the cast of Disney's Jungle Cruise along with Dwayne Johnson; Emily Blunt; Édgar Ramírez; Jack Whitehall; Jesse Plemons; Paul Giamatti, were also considering taking similar legal action against the company for releasing their films just like Black Widow simultaneously, on video streaming platform Disney+ and theatres. However, the reports came out to be fake as later on, Emma Stone sealed a deal with Disney to star in the upcoming film Cruella 2, and Emily Blunt is expected to return to reprise her role in Jungle Cruise's sequel.

Disney Company and Johansson announced that they had settled their lawsuit last month, on Sept. 30.

Johansson, after the settlement, was seen sharing her thoughts with The Hollywood Reporter. She said, "I am happy to have resolved our differences with Disney."

The 36-year-old actress added, "I'm incredibly proud of the work we've done together over the years and have greatly enjoyed my creative relationship with the team. I look forward to continuing our collaboration in years to come."

"I'm very pleased that we have been able to come to a mutual agreement with Scarlett Johansson regarding Black Widow," said Disney Studios chairman Alan Bergman. "We appreciate her contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and look forward to working together on a number of upcoming projects, including Disney's Tower of Terror."

Based on the Comics published under Marvel The superhero film Black Widow was released in theaters on 9th July 2021, after a long delay due to the deadly impact of the Coronavirus pandemic around the world, which forced the theatres to shut down.

The film mainly focuses on the character of Natasha Romanoff, who is a former KGB spy. The film takes a turn when Natasha Romanoff is shocked to find out that her ex-handler, General Dreykov, is still alive.
