The 20222 edition of the BET Awards, which honor black excellence in music, culture, and sports, was held on Sunday, June 26th, 2022, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, where Sean "Diddy" Combs was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

According to a BET Awards press release, the Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes people who have not only had a profound influence throughout their long careers but who have also been transformative leaders who have consistently inspired generations by establishing the gold standard for excellence.

Following a number of performances by A-list celebrities that honored his career, Diddy presented vintage video footage of his late ex- Kim Porter who died in 2018 from lobar pneumonia congratulating Puffy on his success. She said that she can't even begin to express her pride and it's a long way from Harlem to Hollywood. Kim was heard appreciating Diddy for putting a lot of effort into his career and said that she has seen it all and concluded that he has succeeded.

Jodeci, Mary J. Blige, The Lox, and Lil Kim were among the performers at the tribute to Diddy. Diddy also sang "I Need a Girl," "Pass the Cîroc" with Busta Rhymes, "Gotta Move On" with Bryson Tiller, and "I'll Be Missing You" with Faith Evans and the Maverick City Choir. He also said that he simply misses Kim.

Kanye ‘Ye’ West, along with Kenneth Babyface Edmonds, appeared on stage to present the award to Sean. Kanye talked about his history in the music industry with Diddy and started his speech by stating, "How can they crown their kings?" How can they appreciate their kings? Kanye added that they should think about how far they can make it off of inspiration and said that Sean "Diddy" Combs is his favorite artist and he admires everything about him.

As Kanye proceeded, he mentioned both production and the drip and recalled how there had once been many regulations for hip hop, but Sean had been able to break them all and make a way for new ones. Kanye said that Diddy smashed every door and added that Sean is the person Kanye goes to for advice and he inspires him in so many ways, and he said his wife's choices too with a laugh. Kanye said that he took a little break, intends to proclaim himself legally dead for a year, and just wants to disappear from society Although Puff is rather persistent, and added that he had to pretend to be amnesic.

The Grammy-winning rapper, who is a close friend of Sean Combs, said that if Puff (Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs) needs any of the people present in the room, they need to jump up and be there for him before stating that the man has been through and survived a lot of stuff and broke down a lot of doors so that people like him can stand on the stage. He broke down so many doors of classism, taste, and swag. Kanye concluded that he might have never told him but he loved him and said, "You’re my brother." Kanye West surprised everyone by his appearance at the ceremony.

Sean "Diddy" Combs appeared on stage to accept the award and said thanks to God for never leaving his side, keeping him in his purpose, keeping him godly, and lifting him off the ground. He also thanked his mother, who was sitting in the audience, and continued to thank every artist, producer, writer, and executive he had the chance to work with, and then a massive thank you to the fans who had been by his side for over 25 years.

Diddy also said that before he leaves, he will be donating 1 million dollars to Howard University and 1 million dollars to Deon Sanders and Jackson State because they should play for them, and lastly, he thanked everyone for their love and support. He declared at the end of his speech that he had a dream of Black people being free and a dream of people being in charge of their own destinies. Diddy claimed that he had a dream in which people accepted responsibility and stopped murdering one another. He had a dream about affluent individuals residing on the same street. He claimed to have dreamed of the coming together of all humanity.

Early in the 1990s, Diddy established his record company, 'Bad Boy', which since it's inception has grown into a global hip-hop juggernaut with more than almost 100 million albums sold. The three-time Grammy winner, Diddy Combs not only has a thriving fashion business but also has his songs to release. Sean Combs founded REVOLT Media & TV in 2013, the first multi-platform cable music network owned by a person of color.

BET CEO Scott Mills said that in the community, Diddy has consistently been a leader who breaks down boundaries, scales new heights, and forges new paths. By doing this, he raises the standard for everyone else. Sean "Diddy" Combs' variety in music, media, culture, business, and charity is only exceeded by his virtuosity, according to Scott, who also said that he has "exemplified Black Excellence." BET is thrilled to have the chance to use its state to honor the artist's amazing achievement.

Host Taraji P. Henson spoke to Entertainment Tonight and said that Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has had a great impact on Black culture. She said that Diddy means so much to the culture and one cannot talk about hip hop or fashion and can’t talk about alcohol without mentioning Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs and added that he is an iconic, legendary start for so many careers and he should be celebrated. Taraji said that the people should give him his flowers while he is still alive to receive them and concluded that it was about that time.
