Selena Gomez talks about her life with Jay Shetty.

Selena Gomez appeared on Jay Shetty’s "On Purpose" podcast and spoke about how she is still hopeful to find the right love in her life and reflected on her growth as a person.

Selena Gomez shared with Jay Shetty that she is really glad that she went through some heartbreaks in the past, especially the one with Justin Bieber, whom she dated on and off from 2011 to 2018. Selena also dated The Weeknd for 10 months until they called it quits in 2017.

She explained that she believes that giving herself totally to something is the ideal way she can love and that she never wanted the pain she endured to put a guard, or armor, on her since she still believes and hopes.

The singer admitted that there are days when she feels unprepared for a love situation, adding that she would somewhat continue to have her feelings hurt than not feel at all. Despite her fame and fortune, the actress-singer told Jay Shetty that she doesn't want people to think she has it all figured out and that she ultimately wants people to realize that she is not that put together, even if she could be. And Selena stated that she is feeling significantly better now, but she does not want individuals to believe she has everything figured out and wants them to understand that she is not perfect; rather, she strives to be a person who people can sincerely approach and say, hey, they comprehend what she has through, adding that they did as well.

Selena Gomez stated that this connection is particularly important to her as she has previously felt compelled to appear perfect. She explained that she felt she had to be perfect when she was in relationships; she felt she had to be a certain way, which is why in 2016, she was speaking about her body, talking about her presence, and saying, Oh, everybody's going to perceive her as the Disney kid. Selena explained that when she was saying that no one was going to be taking her seriously, that's all of those moments where the confusion arose from for her.

Selena Gomez also discussed her bipolar disorder, which she discussed in her recently released documentary, and stated that she has managed to learn that acknowledging the reality of her situation is what leads to change and improvement. She stated in the documentary that her favorite thing to say is that she has bipolar disorder and that she has learned to live with it and has made it her friend.

She added that she will say that learning lessons through dialectical behavior or cognitive behavior therapy have always been embedded in her throughout all those different moments in her life. And that was always to recognize and accept what was happening to her. And once Selena said that she realized that this was not going to go away, that it was not going to be fixed by going to these places. It was more about what she can learn about herself and how, if she continues down this path, she will be triggered, and she is aware of that feeling and how to avoid it. She explained that she attends therapy and also takes medications, fully accepts and believes in wholeheartedly and it helps her stay balanced. But she added that she still has to deal with it.

Another poignant topic she discussed in the podcast interview was how she handles critics and negative press about herself. She said she had to learn the hard way how to deal with it by not giving that clickbait that people want, explaining that she tries her hardest to eliminate these negative stories or other people demonstrating her journey. The actress added during the conversation that she tries to disrupt them with her truth, and she will always do so as it is gaining her the charge of her story, and nobody can change that or say anything different. She further said that it truly makes her happy to combat it with love or kindness and she is thankful for her history because it's made her a better person.

Selena Gomez began her career in the entertainment industry at the age of seven and has spent the majority of her life in the spotlight, making her intensely personal journey with her physical and mental well-being a public show daunting reality for many child stars. She lastly added that, to be honest, she is not aware of anything else, and that's what scares her at times and added that it's heartbreaking as this is what she has been given at times. Selena added that this is the path she intends to take in the future and she is aware that she has the option to leave at any time but that is not how she was raised. The singer-actress said to Jay Shetty that perhaps if this had happened later in my life, the outcome would have been different.
