The 32-year-old Canadian star Simu Liu, who recently made his debut in Hollywood’s biggest and most successful franchise Marvel Cinematic Universe by starring in the titular role of Shang-Chi in the studio newly released superhero blockbuster Shang-Chi and The Legend Of Ten Ring, says that he now wants to do something different from his action-adventure Shang-Chi film.

“To quote Monty Python, “and now, for something completely different!” Coming off of an action/martial arts spectacle like Shang-Chi, I knew that much of the world was going to expect me to do more kung-fu films. It’s always been important to me to constantly challenge people’s perceptions of myself, as well as of Asian people as a whole. While I celebrate legendary actors such as Jackie Chan, Jet Li, and Bruce Lee, I know that my path is very different. I am not a master of kung-fu, after all; I am an actor who trained very hard to embody the character that I was hired to play. As such, I’m beyond excited to step into Sam’s shoes for this movie that I am deeply in love with,” Liu said to The Hollywood Reporter while recently appearing at an interview.

Liu is next set to feature in the upcoming romantic-comedy One True Loves, which definitely seems to be completely different and a major shift from the action-packed superhero flicker that the actor did. The romantic film is based on Taylor Jenkin Reid’s 2016 novel, One True Loves. The film alongside Simu Liu in the role of Sam will cast other members like Phillipa Soo in the role of Emma, Luke Bracey in the role of Jesse, Michaela Conlin, Lauren Tom Michael O'Keefe, Tom Everett Scott, Cooper van Grootel in the role of young Jesse, Oona Yaffe in the role of young Emma, and Phinehas Yoon in the role of young Sam.

Liu’s superhero epic Marvel Studios Shang-Chi and The Legend of Ten Rings after making its way into the theatres became the first film from the studio to feature an Asian actor that to even in the lead role, the film was heavily influenced by the American comic book publication, Marvel Comics where the martial artist Shang-Chi continues to make his appearance. Shang-Chi was the 25th entry in the superhero-based franchise Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With Destin Daniel Cretton as the film director, Shang-Chi and The Legend of Ten Rings’ story was written by Dave Callaham and Destin Daniel Cretton with the screenplay writing under Dave Callaham, Destin Daniel Cretton, and Andrew Lanham and it featured a huge list of stars such as Simu Liu in the role of Xu Shang-Chi also known as Shaun, Awkwafina in the role of Katy, Meng'er Zhang in the role of Xu Xialing, Fala Chen in the role of Ying Li, Florian Munteanu in the role of Razor Fist, Benedict Wong in the role of Wong, Michelle Yeoh in the role of Ying Nan, Ben Kingsley in the role of Trevor Slattery, Tony Leung in the role of Xu Wenwu.
