Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello had the most difficult of breakups. The two were together for a long while before they decided to end their relationship in the fall of 2021. 

Both celebrities were friends for a long time before they became lovers. They have known each other since 2014 as they together opened up for the Austin Mahone tour in the year. Later they connected for musical collaboration in 2017 when they sang I Know What You Did Last Summer. 

Soon in 2019, they came back together to work on Senorita. This time, fans were quick to notice their chemistry, and rumors started spreading, saying they were both together. The two confirmed their relationship in July 2019 when they were seen making out in the ocean in Miami. 

A year into their relationship, they adopted a puppy together, whom they named Tarzan. They lived together during the 2020 pandemic months. 

Yet, things turned bad for them the following year, in 2021, when they both started drifting apart. The friends turned lovers shared in November 2021 that they will be calling an end to their relationship. The joint statement of the two revealed that though they will split ways, they will continue to love each other as humans and be as strong together as ever. 

People close to the couple shared that the two continued to love each other after their breakup and that they respected each other a lot despite having decided to split ways. They had mutually decided to take a break from each other and see what is at stake if they broke up. 

It is not like they would never date again, but at the time, they were not the best for each other. The two celebrities also admitted that the breakup hurt them, yet they had decided to move further with what was best for them. 

Like most other celebrity couples, the attention their love was receiving from the audience made it overwhelming for them to stay together. They were receiving constant criticism about their relationship as people kept on pestering to know where they were headed in their love life. 

The pressure by the fans that demanded they get back together was also unbearable by the two former lovers. Later both the Fifth Harmony singer and the Stitches musician released music that seemed to hint at their breakup. 

The two however did not directly address their breakup until earlier this month in 2022. Shawn Mendes seemed to be done with his relationship with Camila Cabello and all the unnecessary attention that it brought along with it. 

In an interview with Billboard held on March 14, the singer shared that he "honestly" did not care about the overwhelming scrutiny he had to face along with Camila during his relationship with her. 

While he might seem like he is done with the entire thing and that Camila is his past now, the singer did reveal during a studio session that it took him a moment to realize that he was alone. In a Titter he shared on March 18, he revealed that a little time into the breakup, he understood that he was on his own.  

Hence, he used the feeling to influence his new music. He shared that people only barely realize all the emotions that come rushing in after someone splits for the first time. 

Therefore. he used it to fuel his lyrics and wrote verses that resonated with his situation. He also admitted that people feel that it is the right thing to do when they decide to break up, but it is the hurt that comes after which is the true measure of pain. 

He revealed that he didn't know whom to call if he suffered from a panic attack or whom to share his thoughts with if he felt on the edge. He also shared that he hates being alone and on his own. But he admitted that that has become his reality now. 

There still could be hope for Camila and Shawn Mendes reuniting as they were seen walking on the same beach from the beginning of their relationship after they had broken up. Shawn Mendes is also having a hard time dealing with the breakup because Camila got to keep their puppy. He had also vowed to acquire the joint custody of the dog.
