The announcement of the couple’s decision to part ways baffled the fans as just a few weeks ago, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello appeared on each other’s social media for the occasion of Halloween, dressed up in matching folkloric outfits in the honor of the day of death and looked more in love.

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello have appeared to be inseparable since the start of July 2019 and during the pandemic, Shawn and Camila moved to Miami to be with Camila Cabello’s family and Shawn described it as a ‘really beautiful experience’. In his interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe in November 2020, Shawn Mendes said, "It was the first time I was quiet, and I was able to be like, ‘What is happening in this world, and how do I feel about it, and what can I do, and where does this go from here? That was the best gift I think I've ever, ever been given in my whole life."

Whereas singer-actress Camila Cabello also shared during one of her interviews that Shawn Mendes has helped her to be ‘stronger, braver, wiser and better. She added, "When you're in a relationship with someone, it feels like they are this mirror reflecting yourself to you—I constantly have to confront my fears, my anxieties, my insecurities, my patterns of thinking, my beliefs about life and myself. It's not as simple as it looks in pictures sometimes. Sometimes, it's messy and uncomfortable and ugly, lol. But there's nothing like the pull, the FORCE that is love."

In her Glamour cover-story interview, Camila Cabello also opened up about the couple who has been seeking counseling and therapy to improve their relationship with each other. She mentioned that because they seek help from a professional, they can ‘trust each other so much. She added, "I'll be venting or ranting about something, and he'll be like, 'Have you talked to X about it?' And I'll be like, 'No. I've got to do a session. And he'll do the same thing to me. That level of transparency helps a lot." She also mentioned that he has helped to fight her anxiety and food disorders in some way and he is a good boyfriend.

The couple was linked as a pair in 2019 and while collaborating on a song ‘Senorita’, and they mentioned that they were ‘casually spending time together and were not looking to get into anything serious. Their stage performance at Newark New Jersey’s Prudential Center at the 2019 Video Music Awards stirred a lot of rumors about their relationship as the pair nearly kissed on stage. None of the two actually commented on them dating each other at that time.

Camila Cabello admitted during an interview with Elle Magazine that she is in a relationship without giving out any names. She further added, "This past year and a half was the first time I really experienced falling in love with another person. I think there is so much more depth to love when you know you are in it with another person. I've loved people from afar, but falling in love with someone and having feelings for someone, but they don't know... it's different."

In Shawn Mendes’ Netflix documentary, ‘In Wonder’, the singer shed a little light on their relationship, stating that every song he wrote is about her. Shawn Mendes added, "My song comes on the radio or something, and I'm like, ‘Everything's about you. They're all, they have always been about you. She goes, ‘What do you mean?' Like, 'They're all about you. Like every song I've ever written.'"

Shawn Mendes spoke to Entertainment Tonight in December 2020 and had mentioned that the couple openly spoke about getting engaged. He added, "Yeah, absolutely, I think for me, it's always been if I'm not willing to talk about that stuff then I kind of check out a little, and I don't know, I really think when you know, you know. She's been one of my best friends since I was, like, 15 years old. I don't know, at the same time, I know we are really young, so I don't want to jump, like, insanely fast, but I think when you find your person, you feel, and you know that you have found your person."

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello have been adored by the audience and while speaking more about their relationship, Shawn said that both of them are mushy people when it comes to writing songs. He added, "I think we are both super sensitive which creates a lot of sensitivity in our relationship, but we are songwriters, so we are constantly searching for the best topics in life and I don't know, I am pretty mushy. I don't know what she would answer or how she would answer that. I feel like she would probably say I am much more mushy." The couple debuted at the 2021 MET GALA earlier this year, which gained a lot of attention and love from their fans across the world.
