Shawn Mendes is finally opening up about his breakup with Camila Cabello!
In a video recently posted by Shawn Mendes on his social media, where he sits by the piano and talks about how his breakup (with Camila Cabello) inspired his song. Shawn Mendes said in the video that one of the things that hit him and are kind of resonating with the lyrics is the fact that when you’re breaking up with someone, you don’t realize what is going to come after it. You do not think in a way that what will you do after this is over.
The singer further added that there are things that we as human beings don’t understand and realize until there is no one to go back to, like who would you call or reach out to when you’re having a panic attack or maybe when you're on the edge, things like these. And that’s when it hit him like he’s on his own now and added that that’s his reality now and he’s finally like, he’s on his own now. Shawn did mention that he kind of hates it but he has accepted it.
Camila and Shawn announced their split in November 2021 in a joint statement, stating that even though they are ending their romantic relationship, they began as friends and will remain friends. Camila Cabello also opened up about her post-breakup feelings during an interview with Zane Lowe and shared that her focus has shifted a lot throughout her life.
Camila added that both of them started young and both of them were learning in their way how to be healthy adults, and sometimes that means not having your focus on your career, and that’s okay. She clarified that the lyrics of her new song, "Bam Bam," are not a dig at Shawn Mendes because she loves him a lot and there is no feeling of resentment.
The singer mentioned that the song serves as a hope for someone who is going through a breakup or a divorce, mentioning the cycles of love and life. She added that she hopes when people would listen to the song they can realize that maybe whatever their situation at the time it can take a crazy turn.
Shawn Mendes post their breakup released a music video 'It'll be okay' which is speculated to be the breakup song as the lyrics say that "We don't have to stay/ I will love you either way / It'll be OK." According to sources, the former couple has been in touch since January and are right now cordial with each other. Also, they share a dog.
