Stranger Things is returning to Netflix after two years of wait!

The show will be making a reappearance in 2022 after commencing the shoot in the middle of a pandemic. Gaten Matarazzo, who is Dustin Henderson in the show, told Us Weekly last December, "It's definitely an unorthodox form of shooting. Everyone on set has been very diligent about wearing their PPE. Even for our off-camera work, we keep our masks and goggles on. Lots of distancing. Separation during lunch, and transport from the base to set."

He also added that the cast stayed in contact and checked on others' wellbeing. "The kids would always check in on each other to see how we were doing. We have to look out for each other."

Here is all that you should know about the new season and its official trailer release.

Pandemic and shooting

Shooting during a global pandemic can be quite scary, and Stranger Things experienced its own set of fears. Director Shawn Levy told about the difficulties to IndieWire, saying, "I was having phone calls with Netflix while directing takes and blocking scenes." The set had to be shut down amidst concerns of caution, "We shared the news with our cast and crew that we would be pausing production out of an abundance of caution. There were no sick crew members, no one was exhibiting symptoms, but it seemed like the right thing to do."

Now that the world has returned to normal, shooting has started again in full swing. Paps have already glimpsed scenes where Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown, is being rushed to an ambulance atop a stretcher and saw other characters readying for a battle. Season 4 might have a lot of tense moments if Eleven is really injured, along with fully-action-packed episodes.

When will the newest season of Stranger Things premiere?

Because of the pandemic and the delay in shooting, a set date for the release of the series has not been announced yet. While Netflix had previously maintained a predictable course of release dates for their shows, Stranger Things: Season 4 is now expected to release sometime in 2022, but when is a question of time.

The cast and new faces to look out for

The main characters have a pretty strong footing in the plot, and all of the main cast members will be returning with the fourth season of the series. These will include Millie Bobby Brown, Harbour, Matarazzo, Keery, Dyer, Sink, McLaughlin, Hawke, Wolfhard, Winona Ryder, Noah Schnapp. However, the series will be launching many new faces into the plotline, like Peter Ballard, as played by Jamie Campbell Bower, who will have the character of "a caring man who works as an orderly at a psychiatric hospital," as told by Deadline.

Other faces to look out for as per Deadline are Eduardo Franco as Jonathan's drug addict friend, Argyle, and Joseph Quinn, who will be known as metalhead Eddie Munson. He will be running the Hellfire Club at the beginning of the new season.

A Nightmare's Robert Englund, known for his character Freddy Krueger, will play Victor Creel, a character previously seen on the show. He is supposed to be admitted to a psychiatric hospital following "a gruesome murder in the 1950s."

The new cast members have already been welcomed by Stranger Thing's official Twitter account alongside an upside-down photo of the cast.

The cast is also extended to Amybeth McNulty, Anne with an E actress, who will be seen as Vickie, whose nerdy band genius might just attract the main character. Myles Truitt from Queen Sugar is cast as Patrick, a popular high school jock who happens to be on the school basketball team. Then there is the lovely school guidance counselor, Ms. Kelly, who will be played by Regina Ting Chen, known from Queen of the South. There is also Grace Van Dien, playing Chrissy, who is cast as the school cheerleader with a dark secret.

More on the trailer

Stranger Things is nicely building up the anticipation as no official long trailer has been released for the series yet. However, Netflix has been substituting this with releasing teasers that allow little information at a time.

The first teaser was released on May 6, highlighting the experiment grounds that Eleven broke out from. The teaser follows a mysterious man wishing "Good morning, children" to a roomful of kids with shaved heads, and the children respond, "Good morning, Papa." This man could only be Dr. Martin Brenner, who first experimented on Eleven and others. The teaser also shows Eleven in a room suddenly waking up to "Eleven, are you listening?" possibly foretelling that she is caught again or is having flashbacks.

Another teaser on August 6 showed Eleven wearing a new haircut and looks like she is captured. Hopper continues to be in Russia while the rest of the kids seem to be investigating a possibly haunted house.

Now, after a long wait, Netflix has released Stranger Things' third teaser during the TUDUM global fan event, where Steve, Dustin, Max, and Co. carry on to investigate the Creel house, which once housed a happy family of four and yet now stands abandoned. Something is amiss, of course.

Is season 4 going to be the series finale?

The creators and producers of the TV series had previously hinted that Stranger Things would come to an end after the fourth season. In a 2017 interview with Vulture, the Duffer brothers had said that they expect only to create four seasons for the show. "We're thinking it will be a four-season thing and then out," said Ross Duffer and his brother Matt had added, "I don't know if we can justify something bad happening to them once a year."

However, Shawn Levy came with a ray of hope, saying that the series might have more than just four seasons, but apparently, nothing is final just yet. He told Collided in a 2018 interview, "There's very much the possibility of a season beyond that one that's currently undecided. And what I would just say is part of the chaos and fun of this particular show is that while the Duffers and the writer's room and we producers outline the entire season, the Duffers really use the writing process to revisit, reassess, and question all of their prior assumptions."

By the fall of the year 2020, the Duffers too came up with a new outlook on the series, and "Season 4 won't be the end. We know what the end is, and we know when it is. [The pandemic] has given us time to look ahead, figure out what is best for the show. Starting to fill that out gave us a better idea of how long we need to tell that story."
