The Bachelorette couple Gabby Windey and Erich Schwer have reportedly decided to call off their engagement of six months and go their separate ways. Sources close to the couple have confirmed the news, but neither of the two Bachelorette alums has commented on their split.
Gabby Windey and Erich Schwer got engaged at the finale of season 19 of The Bachelorette in September 2022. During the finale episode that premiered in two parts, Erich Schwer was heard saying to Gabby Windey that he would like to date her when they leave the show before proposing to her. Gabby at the time expressed that she wants to be with someone who wants to be with her and told Erich that if they end their relationship, she would be fucking destroyed, to which Erich said that he believes that what he and Gabby have is genuinely real but would have liked if they would try a relationship with her outside the show before taking a step.
Gabby entered her proposal day on The Bachelorette expecting to be engaged but unsure if Erich would go down on his knees to propose to her or not, and she expressed her feelings to him and said that she knows that he loves her and that he loved her before she knew how to love herself. Gabby continued telling Erich that he had fought for her so hard and that she thought he was a person who was too good to be true, but she knows that he is too good but also true.
The co-lead of The Bachelorette confessed that she loves him and wants to love him as long as he will let her, to which Erich told her that she deserves someone who is going to give her 100%, and the reason he was there was because he wants to be that person for her. Erich told Gabby that he found their connection insane and that he was 100% himself around her. He said that he loves her and that she is an amazing person. Erich Schwer popped the question to Gabby Windey with a Neil Lane diamond ring.
In the After the Final Rose episode, text messages from Erich Schwer’s ex-girlfriend were addressed, and he said that all he can say is that he handled the situation in very poor taste, adding that he led her on and he wants to own that, and he has no hard feelings for her. Gabby Windey supported her man, stating that he had informed her about the text messages and that the fact that he owned up to his mistake is where he can start to do better.
The texts revealed that Erich Schwer broke up with her only to pursue being on the show and was stuck in his career path, so being on the show was an apt timing for him to see if there was something else he could do with his life. He also told her that the love they find on the show is not real. About the show not being real, Gabby said that they had an honest conversation about it and that people go on the show for all different reasons, adding that, of course, his vocabulary and verbiage were pretty explicit and kind of concerning. Gabby added that he didn't know he was going to meet her, and they didn't know that they were going to fall in love.
Now, fans recently pointed out that Gabby Windey was spotted without her engagement ring while she performed on Dancing With the Stars, and Erich was also absent from her social media and attendance for the show even though he cheered her up on social media. Gabby Windey also clarified that they are just supporting each other from a distance, for now, adding that life’s really busy for them right now. She also understands the speculation but mentioned that they are simply going forward with their interests and supporting each other.
Sources said that Gabby felt that they weren’t aligned and weren’t on the same page. She was hoping that they could give each other space and work things out, but eventually decided that they did not have a future together. Gabby Windey had mentioned earlier to Entertainment Tonight that she is excited to build a life with Erich since they both live in Los Angeles, adding that she feels like their priority right now is to just be with each other and enjoy the little things that they haven’t, and then all the moving in and stuff like that.
