The electronic duo, The Chainsmokers have finally addressed the ‘conspiracy theory on what they had been up to during their hiatus. They have hinted new album as well.

After two years of hiatus, The Chainsmokers have announced their return with a hinting new album and released a joint statement on Thursday that read, “It’s finally done now. Thank you for giving us time to rediscover ourselves, our music, and our love for why we do this. The truth is, we could have only made this album now. And we can’t wait to share it with you.”

The DJ duo comprised of Alex Pall and Drew Taggart announced in February 2020 that they were going on a social media hiatus and shared, "taking some time to create our next chapter in music”. The pair deleted all of their posts from their account except their statement and after two years of wait, a video that appeared on The Chainsmokers’ verified TikTok page starring two men who looked similar to Alex and Drew hinting their return.

The first video uses the same purple hue that has been on their social media before switching to a fully colored look at two guys mixing a song in the studio. The video ends with “TCS4”, probably the code name of their upcoming album. The second video that was shared included the look-alikes explaining why the duo decided to take a break and they explain that they want to get into boxing or martial arts. In the third video the duo can be heard singing along to their hit collaboration with Coldplay, “Something Just Like This”, but they look alike single poorly.

Reacting to the videos, one of the users, @SUGENE speculated that “Alex and Andrew basically underwent a lot of plastic surgery. They look completely different!” to which The Chainsmokers’ account replied, “Why would we mess with perfection?” Another video that showcased the doppelgängers responding to the claim that it would be easy for the pair to be replaced with body doubles as both Alex and Drew look like just regular white guys and the band’s account replied, “This conspiracy theory makes no sense.”

Talking about them taking time off social media and working on their fourth studio album, the Grammy winners said that they “wish we could have made… four years ago.” They further explained their decision to go on a little social media detox, “We decided we needed to take some time to reflect and rediscover what made us most excited about this project. We escaped to Hawaii with some friends and gave ourselves permission to not create anything at all if we didn’t want to.” The duo admitted that staying in the public eye in 2019 made them ‘feel a little bit lost.

The DJ duo who are extremely popular shared that after they escaped to Hawaii and decided not to create anything, the urge to create music came back and they started working on it and the fans get to hear their new music ‘soon’. They added that the track, ‘High’., made them fall back in love with music and quoted, “We hadn’t felt that way since the beginning of our career.”

‘High’, is the confirmed first single of The Chainsmokers’ fourth studio album and is now available to pre-save. The duo has not yet announced a release date for the album. Although it should be noticed that the duo did not completely step away from the spotlight as in July 2020, they performed at a show in The Hamptons, although the organizers were fined $20,000 (£15,000) as they failed to keep the covid-19 safety precautions intact.

The Chainsmokers are also among the backers of a scripted feature film, ‘Every Nite is Emo Nite’, which is under development to play fictional characters amid the real-life setting of the Emo Nite events that have gained immense popularity after beginning in L.A.’s club circuit. Alex and Drew said in a statement to Variety in May 2021, “emo music has greatly influenced our lives, taste and the music we make. The community around the music is one of a kind, and we’re excited to showcase Brandon’s amazing story for the world to see.” Their roles have not yet been disclosed by the makers or the duo themselves.
