The 55-year-old superstar Salma Hayek, who will portray the female version of superhero character Ajak, seen in the comics as the male version, fans and followers were shocked when the studio announced that one of their comic book characters Ajak will be a female on the live-screen and how will the studio go about it in the film. The Mexican actress Hayek last year in January during Screen Rant's visit to the set of Eternals at Pinewood Studios discussed the complexity of her character Ajak and the relationship that the superhero will have with other Eternals in the film.

"The thing of the mother was interesting because it allows me to have a specific perspective of observation. That it's a specific human way of seeing all the people in these-- there's a level of love, of caring, and empathy. There's a level of trying to hold, not just the mission, but, the family that is doing this mission, which is different," she explained to Screenrant.

She continued saying that her relation in the film will differ with each character of the superhero team Eternals "And I have a different relationship with each one of them, like you do with your kids. And you can differentiate, this one is going to be the one that is going to have trouble with this, Oh my God I know. I am terrified when this girl turns 14, she's going to be dating at 30. So, you already know your kids that way," she continued.

While her discussion with Screen Rant is more than a year older, the actress, while recently appearing at an interview did give some more insights about her role in the upcoming film. "Chloé decided to tackle the concept of leadership from the perspective of motherhood... I'm not a mother. I'm an alien. I can't have kids," she said.

Hayek further added saying that Ajak in the comics is a man while she is playing the female version of the superhero. "However, my character used to be a man in the comics, now it's a woman. So instead of just changing the gender, I proposed to [Zhao] to really bring something that is very specific to womanhood," she added.

She continued by discussing the relationship between her and Eternals, "I need to guide them into things... we have a mission in life, in the world. A mother also needs to guide her kids," Hayek continued. "When they misbehave, she will reprimand them, but always from the perspective of motherhood... There's an empathy to it - although I'm not allowed to have empathy, because I'm an alien. So that makes it interesting," she further added.
