Despite heavy criticism from the film experts and fans Chloe Zhao’s helmed the latest addition in the superhero-based franchise, Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Eternals is in theatres and it has still managed to become the second most earned film released after the devastating effects of Coronavirus around the globe which forced the theatres to shut down.

A new detail now comes out from The Eternals screenwriters Kaz and Ryan Firpo that reveals why Kit Harington’s version of Dane Whitman who debuted in the film along with other Eternals had such less screentime compared to other members in the diverse cast of the superhero epic, that takes the viewers through the journey of the immortal-being known as Eternals, who were created by legendary writer Jack Kirby and first appeared in The Eternals#1 release in July of 1976.

“…[Dane] has a long history with Sersi in the comics. They have a really complex and interesting relationship that goes back in a lot of different runs… what we really wanted with Dane… [was] somebody that had that gravitas… that power, [who] frankly had the potential to be something great… a character that learns the rules of this world, and then still has this love for Sersi, and still has this potential for where they could go… where their characters could end up,”  the Marvel writer Kaz said to The Direct during a recent conversation, explaining that the team working behind the screen on the film wanted to explore Harington’s Dane Whitman long journey and especially his relationship with Gemma Chan’s Sersi but they eventually ended up landing with the current version of the blockbuster.

He adds, elaborating they [Ryan and Kaz] at no point in time during the making of the movie went on to measure Harrington’s character’s arc and how his Dane Whitman is going to factor in film plot. “So it wasn’t a choice to say ‘Dane should only be this much,’ it was really like, ‘who would this human [character] relationship with Sersi be?' For it to become Dane was this no-brainer once you looked at the mythology of the universe.”

“I think that the movie in the present day is a lot of dealing with the demons of the past for the Eternals family. So it was always the intention to keep them alone together because that’s the best way for them to be forced to deal with all of their issues from the past. So there was never an iteration where Dane went on the journey with them,” Ryan chimed in, confirming that Marvel Studios latest blockbuster The Eternals is about “the past of the Eternals family” rather than a story exploring the life of Kit Harrington’s hero and there is no iteration of the movie that includes such a thing in its storyline.

Even though the fans and followers are pretty disappointed when come to dealing with the fact that the studio decided to give so less screentime to the Games of Thrones star Kit Harington in its newest addition to the MCU, but they do have something going on in their favor as films’ post-credit-scene did star the actor, teasing his future appearance in an MCU project.

Based on the storyline around the god-like being from the Marvel Comics, Marvel Studios The Eternals featured Angelina Jolie in the role of Thena, Richard Madden in the role of Ikaris, Salma Hayek in the role of Ajak, Gemma Chan in the role of Sersi, Lauren Ridloff in the role of Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry in the role of first gay superhero Phastos, Lia McHugh in the role of Sprite, Kumail Nanjiani in the role of Kingo, Barry Keoghan in the role of Druig, Don Lee in the role of Gilgamesh, Kit Harington in the role of Dane Whitman with additional actors which includes Harish Patel, Haaz Steiman in the role of Phastos' husband, Ozer Ercan in the role of a smuggler and Zain Al Rafeea in an unknown role.
