Director Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are back to scare the audience with the fifth installment of the ‘Scream', series, titled ‘Scream', which is slated for release on January 14th, 2022, and distributed by Paramount and Spyglass Media Group. The first trailer for the movie was released a couple of days ago, marking the day as the 25th-anniversary screenings of the first movie.

Opening with a scene that resembles Drew Barrymore's iconic beginning to 1996's 'Scream,' the new trailer sees the Ghost Face texting a newcomer, Tara (Jenna Ortega), before deactivating the alarm system, breaking into her house, and likely murdering her.

When a new string of killings begins, Dewey (David Arquette) will call Sidney (Neve Campbell) to bring her back to Woodsboro, leading to the two of them reuniting with Gale (Courteney Cox) to take on a new killer. "It's happening", Dewey informs Sidney over the phone. So far, there have been three attacks. "Do you have a gun?"  "I am Sidney Prescott,"  Sidney responds. "Of course, I have a gun."

The audience also witnesses a new poster to mark the trailer’s release, and it comes along with an intriguing tagline that says, "It’s always someone you know". The poster and the trailer have already created a lot of speculation amongst people.

‘Scream’ is going to be the first outing in the franchise since creator Wes Craven’s death in 2015. Courteney Cox had explained earlier during an interview that the fifth installment will follow the events of 2011’s 'Scream 4' but is not a direct sequel to the movie. She said, "These directors, I mean God, the directors [Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett] are just incredible. It's hip, it's scary, and it’s just a new Scream. It's not a reboot, it's not a remake, and it’s just a brand-new launch. I think it's going to be fantastic."

Neve Campbell had shared, "People had asked in the past whether I would do another one without Wes or whether I would make another one. I always felt like it'd be too difficult to do it without Wes. He was the master of these films. He did such a beautiful job on them. We were a family."  She further added that the directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who helmed 2019's horror-comedy sent her a note that stated,  'Ready or Not, that changed her mind and she was on board.

The new cast members are Jack Quaid, Melissa Barrera, Dylan Minnette, Mason Gooding, Kyle Gallner, Sonia Ammar, Mikey Madison, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Reggie Conquest.

The original movie was directed by the late Wes Craven and, after the success of the first movie, Scream went on to spawn three more installments, each starring Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, and David Arquette. People were skeptical that 'Scream' would return after Wes Craven's death in 2015, but with the trailer release, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillette put an end to all speculation.

Kevin Williamson is the executive producer of the movie who wrote the original Scream mentioned that he kept the late director Wes Craven in mind while approaching the new project. Maddalena, Peter Oillataguerre, and Chad Villella are executive producing alongside Williamson while the screenplay is written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.

The fact that Ghost face is pursuing people connected to Stu and Billy is intriguing-Scream be gearing up to reveal the characters' hidden offspring? Their presence has loomed large over the franchise as the original killers and given Scream's intriguing position in the franchise canon as a partial reboot, it appears likely that the film will have some major twists up its sleeve.
