The Uncharted movie is finally here, and the video games buffs who enjoyed the actioner game can not be any happier! The film will be released in cinemas in 2022 and might make its way to Netflix after the initial days of theater screenings.

Uncharted will be featuring Tom Holland in the lead role of Nathan Drake, the iconic character everyone knows from the video game sessions. He will be joined by Sully, a character played by Mark Wahlberg. The film is to be produced by Sony Pictures and is a particular treasure for the people who have been indulging in the games for a long time.

When is Uncharted releasing?

Talks of the film coming to the big screen started way back in 2016. With multiple run-ins and issues, the most recent being a full-blown pandemic, the film is now scheduled to release six years later than when the game-turned-movie made headlines. The film is now all set to release on February 18th, 2022 in US cinema houses. As Netflix now has exclusive rights to stream Sony theatrical production films, the film will soon make a debut on Netflix, too, along with Venom 2 and Morbius.

Uncharted movie trailer and first look

The first look of the movie was shared a while back by Tom Holland on his Twitter account on October 22nd, 2020. The post read: It's nice to meet you, I'm Nate. #uncharted.

The cast of Uncharted

The Spider-Man actor gets to explore another fantastical universe with Uncharted as he jumps from one action move to another. Tom Holland is cast as Nathan Drake, the younger version of Nathan we have come to love in the video game series. Mark Wahlburg will get to play Victor "Sully" Sullivan, the veteran treasure hunter who also doubles up as Nathan's mentor.

Nolan North who has been voicing the character, Nathan Drake, in the games for quite a while now, has himself praised Tom's performance. He joked that he looked good in his twenties as Tom gets to play the young treasure hunter and wrote on Twitter:

"Wow! I looked great in my twenties! @TomHolland1996 and @markwahlberg nailed the Drake-Sully dynamic in @unchartedmovie Thanks to director @rubenfleischer and everyone involved!!! See you all in February!"

The film was first to be directed by Dan Trachtenberg and then came under the wings of Travis Knight. While both the directors left the sets, they subsequently shaped the movie as we will get to see it soon.

Talking about Tom's character and portrayal, Trachtenberg had said, "He might go a little bit older in a way that you realize, 'Oh, it's Nathan before the first game, but it's not like Young Nate Drake." The director also said, "He's not playing Nathan in the flashbacks. This is actually just Nathan and Sully's first adventure." However, Ruben Fleischer now gets to helm the movie.

Other members to complete the film cast will include Sophia Taylor Ali from Truth or Dare and will play the character of Chloe Frazer. Frazer is another young hunter in Nate's command and was introduced to the Uncharted world in the second game: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and also, in Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.

Antonio Banderas from Zorro will get to play the bad guy in the movie and is probably an original creation for the sake of the movie. Tati Gabrielle gets to play the character of Braddock and will be joined by Patricia Meeden on the screens.

Uncharted movie plot

All the characters in the movie will be rather young than you get to see them in the Uncharted games. Though the movie is not strictly a prequel to games by any means, the plot will just be another adventure the team of young hunters went on. Tom Holland gets to play a younger version of Nathan Drake, before he was as rich as portrayed in the game, along with Sully, who will be seen in his younger years, too.

Talking about the film and its cast members, Holland told Total Film, "Uncharted is a film I finished last year. It's Mark Wahlberg and myself. It's a prequel to the Naughty Dog game series, Uncharted. I play Nathan Drake. Ruben Fleischer is our director, and he did an amazing job. I'm really chuffed with it. It's fun, it's funny, it's epic. It's going to be really entertaining. The action sequences are some of the coolest sequences that I've ever done. So I'm super-excited about that."

While he did a particularly good job as can be seen from the trailer, Tom Holland also revealed that shooting Spider-Man and Uncharted at the same time wasn't exactly a cakewalk. "I was doing this scene on Spider-Man 3 where I'm walking into this building, and there is this cool cinematic shot pushing in behind me, and Amy Pascal took me aside and said, 'Why are you walking like that? You're walking like a man; you need to walk like a boy.'" The director of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Jon Watts, chimed in, "'It's fine, it's Nathan Drake. We'll iron him out and get Peter Parker back,'" as Holland later revealed.

Will the movie have any relevance to the game?

Apart from the fact that the film is literally the adaptation of the game, the movie's trailer shows a lot of semblance between the cinematic production and the video game. From maps to treasure hunts and Drake's worn-down boots, the film is probably going to be the video game's twin. Tom Holland told Den of Geek, "For the fans that love the games, they're getting an aspect of the story that they've never seen before. The people that haven't played the games are getting a really nice introduction to a character. It kind of works for everyone."
