Venom: Let There Be Carnage actor Tom Hardy has revealed that an R-rating for the film was in consideration before it eventually ended up with a PG-13 rating.

The actor said, "With all of these symbiotes, you know, you consider it. You read the comic books and it is extreme, but that's not what we're here to do. We came here to make a movie which, and correct me if I'm wrong, I mean, there's a law and a rule into creating a movie that's accessible to a lot of people, as well as that caters for everybody, including the hardcore fans. So I hope the hardcore fans at least take home that they look at Carnage and go, 'Yeah, I recognize Carnage from the comic books. I'm happy with that.' And yeah, no, we didn't bite everybody's head off, but we did stick a tongue down someone's throat pretty... and managed to come in at a level of rating which is reputable so that grandma can come but also I'll come watch it too."

Recently, director Andy Serkis was also seen defending a PG-13 rating for the film. He said, "I think we have pushed to the very very limits, the danger and darkness, and the threat and the menace of Carnage."

PG-13 is a content rating given to films and television shows which means the show or film has some material that may be Inappropriate for Children Under 13. This may include the use of stronger language, extended violence or sexual situations, and drug use. The content rating is given by the Motion Picture Association's Classification and Rating Administration.

Last week, the director also confirmed the possibility of fan-favorite Tom Holland's Spider-Man appearance in a future Venom movie. Serkis shared the shocking detail while making an appearance in an interview for the promotion of his upcoming film Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

In the interview, Serkis claimed that he knows fans are waiting to see a face-off between Spiderman and Venom but for a big event like this to happen they have to be much more patient.

He said, "Everyone wants to know when Venom is going to meet Spider-Man, personally, it's not going to happen," Serkis said. "I'm kidding. It's going to happen, the question is when. We don't want to rush it."
