Marvel Studios 'Loki' superstar Tom Hiddleston has revealed the reason for casting Chris Hemsworth in the role of comic book character 'Thor' but not him. The 40-year-old actor shared that the physical challenge for him to play 'Thor' was too much to handle.

He revealed the details while speaking at a short promotional video clip for his series. He said, "There was at one point in the training -- there was a board, I think in the stunt gym, there was like a thing of 1,000 meters on the rowing machine, 100 pull-ups, 100 push-ups, and 100 squats, and doing it for time," he added. "And Chris Hemsworth would put his time on the board. And I thought, 'OK, I'll give that a go." Tom Hiddleston further added, "I didn't get past 15 pull-ups, so that's the reason he was cast as Thor."

Tom Hiddleston revealed some similar details while appearing at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that he was actually meant to play The God of Thunder Thor in 2011 but later the plan dropped and he went on to play the fan-favorite supervillain Loki.

Loki is a 2021 television show based on Marvel Comic Books. Michael Waldron serves as the director of the series.

It is the third television show in the continuously expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). 'Loki' is produced by Marvel Studios and is distributed under the banner of Disney Platform Distribution. The first episode of the action-thriller show was premiered on 9th June 2021.

The series revolves around the popular supervillain Loki, the God of Mischief who after stealing the Tesseract during the events of Avengers: Endgame creates alternate versions of himself by traveling through time and space. He has to fix the timeline before it creates more challenges for him with the help of the mysterious organization Time Variance Authority (TVA).

The superhero show features Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15, Eugene Cordero as Casey, Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius, Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, Sasha Lane as Jack Veal as Kid Loki, and Richard E. Grant as Classic Loki.

Thomas William Hiddleston is an English actor well known for playing the role of Loki in MCU's various films such as in 2011's Thor, 2012's The Avengers, 2013's Thor: The Dark World, 2017's Thor: Ragnarok, 2018's Avengers: Infinity War, 2019's Avengers: Endgame and finally in his own Disney+ series Loki.

The actor along the years has received various awards, including a Golden Globe Award and a Laurence Olivier Award, in addition to nominations for two Primetime Emmy Awards and a Tony Award.

Tom Hiddleston will next be seen in the lead role of Reverend Will Ransome on the upcoming television show 'The Essex Serpent' after it was announced back in March 2021 that Hiddleston had joined the cast of the Apple TV+ drama series The Essex Serpent.

The series is based on the novel 'The Essex Serpent' created by Sarah Perry. The shooting for the much-anticipated drama series began in February 2021 and he will be playing the role of Reverend Will Ransome.
