"Spider-Man" star Tom Holland has confirmed that he is going to play the legendary actor, dancer, and singer Fred Astaire in an upcoming movie for Sony.

In her GQ interview for Tom Holland’s cover story, Amy Pascal hinted that she would love to have Tom Holland on board as Fred Astaire in her forthcoming movie, along with seeing him portray Spider-Man in another trilogy as well. Amy said, "There are very few actors working now who are versatile in the way that he is. And he’s the hardest-working person that I know. "

But now, during the promotions of "Spider-Man: No Way Home," at an event where Tom Holland spoke to AP and confirmed that he is soon going to step into the shoes of legendary actor, dancer, and singer Fred Astaire for his upcoming movie. The details of the movie are still at an early stage, and so not much information was given.

Tom Holland said, "Oh, I am playing Fred Astaire. The script came in a week ago. I haven’t read it yet; they haven’t given it to me. Amy Pascal FaceTimed me earlier. I was in the bath. And we had a lovely FaceTime, but I will be playing Fred Astaire".  Tom Holland showcased his dancing skills during an episode of Lip Sync Battle opposite Zendaya in 2017 where he performed a mash-up of Rihanna’s "Umbrella" and "Singin’ in the Rain". His performance received applause not only from his co-star but also from the audience.

In the span of his 76-year-old career, Fred Astaire ruled the stage with starring in more than 10 Broadway and West End musicals, 31 musical films, four television specials, and numerous recordings. His most famous dancing partnership was with Ginger Rogers, with whom he appeared in twelve Hollywood musicals during the Classical Hollywood era, including Top Hat (1935), Swing Time (1936), and Shall We Dance (1937). During the time of the Great Depression Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, with their fancy footwork in classical musicals helped to take the cinema-goers' minds off the troubles.

Tom Holland and Zendaya have been promoting their upcoming movie, "Spider-Man: No Way Home," which is all set to be released on December 17th, 2021. The two are reportedly dating, but neither of them has accepted nor denied the rumors of their dating. Zendaya and Tom have shared their experiences and appreciation for each other on several occasions.

During the premiere held in London on Sunday, the two spoke about how much love they have for the Spider-Man family, and Zendaya added that she is grateful to have met Tom Holland while working on the movie. She added, "One of the most special parts of all this is the fact that I got to meet Tom Holland. So I am incredibly forever grateful to ‘Spider-Man’ for that. And he’s obviously very talented and a lovely person. "On the other hand, Tom Holland revealed in his GQ Interview that he is very grateful to have met Zendaya. He said, “Having her in my life was so instrumental to my sanity". 

In his GQ cover story interview, Tom Holland shared that "Being Spider-Man is more of a responsibility than just having a job. There are kids out there who are bullied at school because they don’t fit in, and Spider-Man is their go-to guy.

Ahead of the release of "Spider-Man: No Way Home," Tom Holland is looking forward to the start of another franchise, "Uncharted," the film adaptation of the video game series in which he stars alongside Mark Wahlberg. Tom Holland will also act in Akiva Goldsman's Apple TV+ anthology series The Crowded Room, which will be written and executive produced by the Oscar-winning screenwriter.
