Trevor Noah clarifies his stance with Kanye West

In a recent video posted by Trevor Noah on TikTok, the Daily Show host addressed a remark made by an audience member about his alleged feud with American rapper Kanye West.

Trevor Noah clarified that it is an interesting way to phrase it because beef has to go both ways and added that genuinely it does, but in his limited understanding of the world, beef has always been something that generally happens between hip-hop artists.

The Daily Show host clarified that he had no beef with Kanye West and was simply concerned about him. There had been an alleged feud between the two which occurred earlier this year after Trevor Noah condemned Kanye West on social media for his constant trolling of ex-wife Kim Kardashian. Kanye West responded by using a racial slur against Trevor Noah on Instagram, which resulted in Ye being banned from the platform for a day.

Kanye West has recently courted controversy for making racist and anti-Semitic remarks in various interviews. Kanye West has previously stated that he suffers from mental illness, which has led to people defending him this time around regarding his antisemitic remarks. Trevor Noah did not specifically address Kanye West's recent comments, but he did question why the media continues to give West a platform even though he is known to have mental health issues.

In his video, Trevor Noah stated that if someone tells him they have mental health issues and tells everyone that if they don't take their prescribed medication, they are unable to regulate themselves, then everyone disregards when that person has an episode and hasn't taken the medication, and they put them up. Trevor believes that being honest with everyone can be difficult at times.

Trevor Noah said that his grandfather was bipolar and clarified that he is not saying that Kanye West is but stated that his grandfather was bipolar, and they knew when he was having one of his episodes. He could act and do certain things, but their job was to support him and said that it would be strange if he was there, thinking,  oh, his grandfather's having another episode so tonight he will be going viral or something like that adding that he finds all of this a bit strange.

Trevor Noah stated that he has no feud or problem with someone (in this case, Kanye West) who has publicly admitted that they are dealing with a mental health problem and that he has no issue with that person. He went on to say that his issue is with the community not trying to rally around the person and saying that maybe this isn't the moment to put a microphone in someone's face or ask them to comment on something so that they simply go off saying everything. Trevor said if they want to say this while on medication, that's a different story. But he won't say anything since they've already told us.

Trevor Noah concluded by stating that he has never had any sort of quarrel with Kanye West and that he continues to play "College Dropout," that he continues to play his music, and that he continues to love and believes he is the man. He mentioned that he has grown admiring Ye's influence on music, fashion and everything so why would he have an issue with him but he once again mentioned that he is just concerned. Trevor also asserted that he acknowledges what he's been through and does not take it for granted. But Trevor mentioned that he kept promising himself that he would never be the individual who sits by and joyfully says things about individuals he cares about, then decides to join the mourners and pretends he isn't there. Too many people prefer to mourn a person's death but say nothing to the person while they are still alive. So Trevor stated that he has no idea where he is.

During an interview on Variety's Awards Circuit Podcast in August 2022, the host discussed why he decided to make public comments about Kanye West's behavior in the first place. Trevor stated that he has simply grown more comfortable speaking his mind in situations where he believes the mob has forgotten that they are dealing with human beings.

At the time, Trevor Noah stated that it is easy to stand on the sidelines, see a train crash approaching, and do nothing. Then, when the train derails, people would exclaim, 'Oh, they saw that coming!' So, why didn't they say anything? He said that they have a responsibility to speak the truth, especially if they have a platform. See something and say something.

Howard Stern also weighed in on Kanye West's recent actions, particularly his anti-Semitic remarks. Howard Stern contrasted Kanye West to Hitler and admonished Kanye West fans who claim the rapper is mentally ill. He said, fuck this mental illness, self-defense thing adding that yeah, he's just mentally ill. Don't be shocked and surprised. He concluded by asking why, if he is so mentally ill, they don't designate a conservator over his money, as they did with Britney Spears?
