Trevor Noah is ready to leave "The Daily Show."

The Daily Show host, Trevor Noah, who took the reins from Jon Stewart in 2015, has announced that after seven beautiful years, he is ready to end his story with the Comedy Central late-night show.

The host announced his forthcoming departure to the studio audience on Thursday evening as he shared that one of the overriding feelings he had found himself experiencing throughout the night and even while he woke up today, was the feeling of gratitude. Trevor said that there are so many people who make this come together and all he wants to say is thank you to the audience for an amazing seven years, adding that it has been a wild and truly wild journey.

The Daily Show host continued that he loved hosting the show and it has been one of his greatest joys, and he has loved trying to figure out how to make people laugh, even when the stories are particularly snitty on the worst days. Trevor added that everyone knows that they have laughed and cried together, but now after seven years, he said that he feels like it’s time.

Trevor Noah shared that furing his five-minute parting speech, he said that he never imagined he would be here and that he felt like Charlie from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. He arrived for a tour of the prior performance, and the next thing he knew, he was being given the keys. The host also spoke about some of the significant incidents that occurred during his seven years as the program's host, saying that they were unexpected and that he has found himself thinking more pandemic events will occur as a result of everything they have experienced, including the Trump presidency, the pandemic, and just the journey itself. Trevor added that he has now realized that after these incredible seven years of him hosting the show and sitting on the seat, his time is up on the show, but in the most beautiful way.

In a statement, a representative for Comedy Central said that they are very appreciative of Trevor Noah for their incredible cooperation over the past seven years and that they are currently collaborating with him on the next steps even though there is no set date for his departure. According to the statement, The Daily Show has redefined culture for more than 25 years and will continue to do so by providing audiences with witty social commentary that will aid them in making sense of their surroundings.

Trevor Noah had shared with Variety in 2020 that when he took over the reins from Jon Stewart as the host, the first two years of The Daily Show were horrible because he had taken over the reins from America's most beloved institution. Trevor added that even though Jon Stewart has passed over his reins to him, it was essentially a year of people telling him that he shouldn't be doing the job and he was unworthy of being in that seat and to his surprise, the host believed that.

The comedian-host took over the hosting duties in 2015 after sharp-tongued comedic geniuses including Jon Stewart and Craig Kilborn. During an appearance on Sirius XM's The Howard Stern Show in 2020, Jon Stewart discussed Trevor Noah's hosting of the show and claimed it wasn't meant to be a slight of him; rather, the show's evolution was about bringing everyone's attention to some of the business realities in the world. In addition, Jon talked about his tenure as the host, describing it as being similar to pretty much every other late-night comedy program and consisting of a room full of pasty white males from the Harvard Lampoon school.

During the discussion, Jon acknowledged that changing the show's history required a lot of time, effort, and frequent defensiveness. He also said that it took 16 years to modify history at a glacial pace. The former host of The Daily Show said that kind of attitude is not a part of him because he did not grow up in it, but it is a part of Trevor Noah adding that it comes easily from him. Jon said that one just does not do it because it improves things but because it's the right thing to do adding that the show gets better.

The date for Trevor Noah's departure has not been announced.
