American actress, beauty pageant titleholder, model, and television host Vanessa Lachey recently spoke to People Magazine, where she opened up about how she grew up after her mother, Helen, dropped her off at her father’s home when she was nine years old with a promise to return but never did.

Talking about the strained relationship Vanessa Lachey had with her mother, she mentioned that, "I didn't really understand when she didn't come for one weekend, and then another weekend. Then you just hope she's going to come back and always wonder why she didn't. It took me [time] to understand that it wasn't [my fault]. "The actress shared that Helen did visit them a handful of times but then disappeared, but she expressed that she would want to hear her side of the story because she believes that it is not healthy or healing to carry bitterness.

Vanessa Lachey, further in her interview, mentioned that she does not want to nullify the power and strength she has in herself, but her husband and musician, Nick Lachey, has helped her a lot. Vanessa shared that Nick has been a constant and strong support for her, and she is forever grateful to him. The beauty pageant titleholder said, "What I needed was to believe in myself, and it took me marrying the best guy to say, "You are all that and more".

The television host shared in her upcoming book, ‘Life From Scratch’, that she was 18-years-old when she saw her mother for the last time. Further, in her interview, Vanessa Lachey said that she was terrified of having a little girl because she believed that she would mess her up, but now when she looks back to that moment, she calls that moment ‘ridiculous’. The feeling of being terrified as she was moving towards being a parent was because Vanessa struggled with a feeling of self-doubt and insecurity but eventually realized that she might not fall into the same patterns and for that she is grateful.

Vanessa Lachey and Nick Lachey have three kids together; daughter, Brooklyn, and sons, Camden and Phoenix. She said, "What I've taken out of it is how it's ultimately made me a better mom, a better wife, and hopefully a better person. I will never take my family for granted."
