Oscar Isaac, who will play Moon Knight/Steven Grant in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe series "Moon Knight," revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that he was initially hesitant to take on the role and join the Marvel Universe.

After being committed to the Star Wars franchise for a long time, Oscar shared that after being committed to the franchise for a long time, he had decided to take a break from being committed to the franchise for a while and focus on character studies and smaller films, but when Marvel offered him the character of Steven Grant/Moon Knight, his initial reaction was maybe not a great idea to do it. But the actor added that the character had been speaking to him so strongly that he decided to carry on with the research about DID which is Dissociative Identity Disorder, and what it means to struggle with it. Before saying yes to the role, Oscar Isaac thought about what Peter Sellers would do if he were offered the role.

The Dune actor began to learn more about DID and the difficulties it presents, describing it as dream logic and dream talk. He also added that he brought a lot of thoughts and insights to Kevin Feige, and he was open to talking about collaboration. Oscar appreciated Kevin and added that his gesture showcases that he is willing to bring people on board with strong views and opinions to collaborate.

In an interview, Oscar mentioned that the audience would realize that the story is a point of view and that once you are in the skin of this guy, the audience would be able to experience the things happening to him with them, and that’s terrifying. Talking about playing a character with DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder), Oscar explains that it was all about being honest with how people with DID live their lives. He added that for them it was about authenticity more than even story communication.

Ethan Hawke, who plays the antagonist on the show, explained in an interview that it’s very unlikely for a series or movie to have a hero who is genuinely struggling with his mental health. With Moon Knight, the makers have tried to bring in a hero who is not a classic hero and is portraying his real pain on-screen. He said that it’s going to be very interesting to watch the story unfold.

During the interview, Oscar talked about the challenges he had to face, like the scenes where he had to interact with himself on-screen, and explained that it was surely very challenging, but he had some help. Oscar shared that he called up his brother, Michael Hernandez, who is also an actor, to play those scenes. He added that sometimes he’d come on set to play either of the two but end up playing the other one and share his notes with his brother. Oscar Isaac says that as an actor one would never know what challenge is ahead of them.

Oscar Isaac, who is excited to see how people react to Moon Knight, revealed that he eventually realized that finding spontaneity was the most difficult technical challenge he faced while filming but that he enjoyed every minute of it.

Moon Knight will be available on Disney+ on March 30th, 2022.
