The Olympic gymnast, Simone Biles, and NFL player Jonathan Owens are engaged!
Simone Biles took to her social media to share the news with her fans and well-wishers and revealed her engagement ring. She wrote in her post, "THE EASIEST YES. I can't wait to spend forever & ever with you, you're everything I dreamed of and more! let's get married FIANCÉ @jowens_3”. She also posted a close-up of the ring in her story. The couple got engaged on Valentine’s day and shared pictures of the player getting down on one knee in a gazebo in a grey suit while Simone donned a leather ruched mini dress and black strappy sandals.
NFL player Jonathan Owens also shared a picture on his social media and captioned, "Woke up this morning with a fiancée. Appreciate my dawg @don_julio314 for helping me set everything up, she really had no clue what was coming @zofrost you went crazy on this one bro really made the night special, @medronn" The engagement ring is a gorgeous oval-cut diamond ring by Zo Frost and the jeweler shared with Page Six Style, “Jonathan has been a client and friend for a few years and I had the pleasure of helping him to create this very special ring. He and I started the process together a few months ago to select the perfect diamond for Simone that was handpicked by Jonathan.”
The couple connected just before the pandemic on Raya and has developed a beautiful and strong relationship where they constantly support and motivate each other to be their best self. Jonathan Owens told Texas Monthly in June 2021, “I didn’t know who she was. I just hadn’t heard of her, and when I told her that, that’s one of the things she liked.” The NFL player further shared, “We ended up hanging out right before the pandemic. It was one of the few times in her life where everything was just shut off and she couldn’t do anything. So we used it to get to know each other—really get to know each other. It created our bond and made it stronger. Now I’m so thankful.”
Jonathan Owens appeared on an episode of Simone vs Herself where he described how Simone impressed him, "Her work ethic was really the first thing that caught my eye. I never really watched gymnastics before I first started talking to her. When I met her, I honestly didn’t know who she was. It was just kind of like, 'Oh, she’s got a lot of followers. You know, she must be pretty good or something.' That’s how I would tell people, and they’re like, 'Simone Biles?! You for real, the gymnast?!' And I’m like, 'Man, she’s good like that?!' Like I didn’t [know]."
Simone said, "We vibe on the same level. We have the same kind of humor. We’re both athletic. We’re both elite athletes, so we definitely get each other. It was like it was meant to be.”
In August 2020, the couple went Insta-official as Simone Biles posted a picture of the couple together with a caption, “It’s just us”. The couple spent Christmas and New Year’s Eve together and Jonathan wrote, “Always good to spend Christmas with the fam.” Jonathan Owens mentioned to Texas Monthly, “Her energy is something. She’s always happy, giggly, bubbly. If I’ve had a tough day at the office, I wouldn’t want to take that home to her. Her personality, man… This was a match made in heaven. There’s no better person for me. She loves me, she’s so affectionate. I just love that. And it’s just intoxicating seeing how much work she puts into everything.”
In June 2021, Jonathan Owens was able to witness Simone Biles compete for the first time at the U.S. gymnastics championship and wrote, “What an amazing experience. First time getting to watch you compete in person and you didn’t disappoint. It’s so cool that I get to watch you do what you love, and be the best at that ‼ I’m so proud of you my lil champ. Trials up next and you already know I’m there!! Love you baby.” In July 2021, when Simone Biles announced that she is withdrawing from the Olympic events and Jonathan Owens stood by her side like a rock and appreciated her girl on social media by writing, “Imma ride with you through whatever baby. Your strength and courage is unmatched and you inspire me more and more everyday SB. You always gone be my champ baby and don’t you ever forget that, i love you so much and i can’t wait till you come home and i get to see that beautiful smile again. You know I’m always here for you baby.”
Simone Biles opened up about her relationship with Jonathan Owens in August with People and shared that they have immense love and appreciation for each other. She added, "Oh, he's always so supportive. Even if I wake up in the morning and I'm like, 'I'm tired, do I have to go,' jokingly, he's like 'Don't say that! You can do it, this is your dream!' He's always, always so helpful and making sure I stay on top of my therapy and all of that. He's the best because he also goes through it [as an athlete], so he knows exactly how it is in the process. It's been amazing to have him.” She also added that it's been "so exciting" for her to watch Owens' football career and quoted, "I love watching him play because he has such a passion. He works so hard so for him to be able to showcase that on the field is really exciting."
