Tristan Thompson and controversy go pretty much hand in hand and we are not surprised.
According to recent reports, Tristan Thompson informed his baby mama, Maralee Nichols, that he was "engaged" to Keeping Up With the Kardashians alum and his daughter, True Thompson's mother, Khloe Kardashian, and that they would be walking down the aisle soon.
Maralee Nichols submitted documents in court on March 4, 2022, that showcased the Snapchat messages from Tristan Thompson to Maralee that dated back to last spring. In those messages submitted by Maralee, she claimed that Tristan told her that he was engaged and was trying to work things out with his family (Khloe Kardashian and True Thompson) and added that she never knew that he was engaged. Hurt by Tristan’s treatment, Maralee told the player that the way he treated her made her feel like crap and that the entire situation was very upsetting to her.
A few days later, Tristan Thompson replied to Maralee, stating that he’s engaged and will be married soon and cannot be in the child’s (Tristan and Maralee’s son) life by all means. The messages further revealed that Tristan wanted to get out of having a baby’s responsibility at any cost, so he explained to Maralee that she should wait for the right person to have a family and not with someone who is about to get married. He even called their son a mistake and said that she doesn't want to live her life with a mistake.
Tristan Thompson, who was still dating Khloe Kardashian when he sent all those messages to Maralee Nichols, has stated that those messages are fake, but Maralee’s lawyers have mentioned that the messages showcase Tristan’s unwillingness to accept the child and his refusal to pay for child support. it has been revealed in previous reports that Tristan offered money to Maralee and urged her to opt for option number two which technically means abortion.
Talking about the engagement that the player mentioned, a lot of rumors did circle around at the time and Khloe was spotted with a large ring on her left hand, but nothing was confirmed by either of them. According to sources, Tristan had spent around $2 million to purchase an engagement ring for Khloe Kardashian and told Maralee Nichols that after they get married, the pair had decided to move away from California.
The NBA player wrote in his text that his "fiance" was soon going to announce their engagement publicly and that they would probably move out in September to live in Europe or the Caribbean. He added that living away from America is going to be best for them and their family. Maralee Nichols had decided to sue the player for child support and medical expenses before their son, Theo, was born. Tristan, who kept denying the truth about the paternity of the child, confirmed it in January, stating that he did father a child with Maralee and publicly apologized to Khloe.
Maralee further claimed that the NBA player did nothing to support her or their son. He did not even attempt to meet him, but in his statement, he did mention that he would take care of the two of them. Khloe Kardashian, for her part, has kept pretty much quiet about the whole situation and has not given attention to the drama with Tristan Thompson, but sources close to her did mention that Tristan and Khloe have broken up and she wants nothing to do with him anymore.
The reality TV star and the NBA player have not yet commented on the engagement news right now. But could it be a lie that he said to Maralee Nichols to get out of the baby situation or were they actually engaged? Right now with Tristan Thompson, anything could be possible.
According to sources, Khloe spoke to Variety recently and mentioned that the entire Tristan-Maralee-Khloe drama will be addressed in their new upcoming Hulu series, "The Kardashians." She also added that she wished she never had to speak about it as it’s no fun to talk about, but it has been a part of her life, so she will be addressing it.
