Bill Murray explains his side.

The production of "Being Mortal" was stopped over a week ago after a complaint was lodged against the film’s star, Bill Murray, and he was accused of inappropriate behavior by a woman whose identity is not revealed. The complaint is under investigation right now, but the actor shared with CNBC's Becky Quick what he thinks about the complaint.

Bill Murray revealed that he did something he felt was funny, but that it was misinterpreted. He stated that the incident occurred between him and one of the women with whom he was working and that the movie company wanted to do the right thing by conducting an investigation, which is why production was halted.

The actor and comedian did not provide much information on the matter but did share that he and the woman are trying to talk it through and trying to be at peace with each other. He added that they are both professionals and respect and like each other’s work and they like each other as professionals. Bill Murray shared in the interview that if you can’t get along with some people you’re working with and you don’t trust them, there is no point in going further with the project.

After all of the controversy and complaints, Bill Murray mentioned that it has been quite an education for him and said that the world is very different from the time when he was a kid. Bill added that the things that he thought were funny as a kid are not quite considered funny right now and shared that things have changed and times change, so he needs to figure that out. The actor has not yet apologized but described the entire situation as a difference of opinion.

Bill Murray, Seth Rogen, and Aziz Ansari feature in 'Being Mortal', which Aziz Ansari wrote, and is also directing, and producing. The film's filming began in March in Los Angeles, and it was scheduled to hit theaters next year but since the production has been halted the future remains unclear. Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters at the End, a 2014 nonfiction book by the surgeon and author Dr. Atul Gawande about end-of-life care, is the inspiration for the film.

The production house has not identified the woman and shared with NBC that they could not comment on the investigation, along with hinting that they were not sure if Bill Murray was going to be in the movie or not. But Bill Murray added in his interview that he'd be happiest to put on his boots and for both of them to go back to work and be able to trust each other. The actor added that he and the woman who accused him had spent a lot of time developing the skill and he'd just love to go back to work.

Previously, Lucy Liu had described Bill Murray as insulting her during the filming of Charlie’s Angles, and Richard Dreyfuss also stated that Bill Murray had thrown an ashtray at him while working on "What About Bob?" Jennifer Butler Murray, Bill Murray's ex-wife, also accused the actor-comedian of assaulting her in November of 2007, claiming it in her divorce papers and that she was lucky the actor did not kill her. Jennifer claimed in her divorce papers that Bill Murray abused marijuana and alcohol and scouted for sexual partners in other countries, and that she and her sons escaped from their New York apartment to their beach house in South Carolina.
