Game of Thrones was a cinematic force that took the public by storm and now it has deigned to come back and needless to say, things are going to be sweltering hot!

Fans have been waiting for the latest news on the Game of Thrones prequel series and now HBO has finally made an announcement that will make the fanbase of GoT scream with joy. The prequel series of the show will be focusing on the rise and the fall of the famous Targaryen family and was initially announced in October 2019.

The series will be based on the novel Fire and Blood, a book from the Game of Throne series by George R. R. Martin, and was released back in 2018. Fire and Blood are famously known to be the words of the House Targaryen.

The events of the show date back to about 200 years prior to the story as shown in the Game of Throne series on HBO. The main characters of the show are the members of the Targaryen family and their various rulers.

Game of Thrones had only about a few openly known Targaryens, and as more of the story of the family was revealed to the audience, the number of the existing Targaryens decreased. Viserys, the next king in the line of the House, and brother of Dani, played by Harry Lloyd, was the first Targaryen to die.

His threats to his sister, the newly made Khalessi Daenerys Targaryen, played by Emilia Clarke, were not taken to kindy by Khal Drogo, played by Jason Momoa. Hence, he was killed by molten gold being poured over his head.

Later, we learn that there was another surviving Targaryen except these two, Maester Aemon, who was played by the late actor Peter Vaughan. He served in the Night's Watch and was revealed to be the brother of Aerys II, played by David Rintoul, also known as the mad king.

Now, Daenerys is left to be the only Targaryen living, when things take a very unexpected turn with Bran Stark, played by Isaac Hempstead Wright, revealing that the Stark bastard Jon Snow is actually a Targaryen and the son of Daenery's older brother Aegon. Played by Jon Snow, the character was born by Lyanna Stark, the young sister of Ned Stark, Sean Bean

Hence, with the Targaryen line thinning down, Jon Snow was in the exact spot to find himself with the crown of the Seven Kingdoms ready for him as he sat on the Iron Throne as the next overlord of Westeros.

And yet, the writers of Game of Thrones chose an alternate ending when it came to the fate of Jon Snow, and needless to say, the many fans of the series were not pleased with how things went down in the end. But, the HBO makers are looking to appease their fans, and hence, the audience is now awaiting the next Westerosi story with bated breaths.

Trailer for House of the Dragon

The trailer for the series was released on May 5, 2022. Highly awaited, the short video reveals the major characters to be featured in the show and gives a little insight into what the story could be about.

The trailer focuses largely on the dragons that helped the Targaryen family rise to the succession of the Westerosi lands. The House went on to rule the place for 100s of years as generations kept the stronghold.

Yet, the latest series, House of the Dragon will talk about the events that led to the quick dethroning of the last Targaryen king and is termed the "beginning of the fall." The most important event that aided in the descent of the House Targaryen from power, "Dance of the Dragons," a civil war that divided the family is also shown in the series.

Background narration

The civil war began when King Viserys I Targaryen, played by Pady Considine, died living in a fragile world with no apparent heir to take over the throne. The disagreement begins as the king's firstborn child, daughter Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, played by Milly Alcock, wishes to be the first Queen to ascend the iron throne.

She is to be led by Prince Daemon Targaryen, played by Matt Smith, who acts as the heir presumptive for Princess Rhaenyra until she is announced to be the next heir of the Targaryen as her bloodline suggests.

They both are great Dragon riders, just as Jon Snow and Dany were in Game of Thrones, and controlled their three fully grown dragons until Night King manages to kill one of them and bring him under his own deadly control.

The Dance of the Dragon turned out to be the civil war that shattered the place and while the outcome of the war was already revealed in Game of Thrones, it is obvious that the civil war left its own undying mark on the Targaryen Dynasty, leading it to its final pitfall with the Mad King, and ultimately the Mad Queen.

Not to mention, they were not the only slightly unhinged Targaryen characters over the generations. As it is said, whenever a Targaryen is born, the gods flip a coin, and the people wait with their breaths held to see what kind of Targaryen will the new ruler in the line be.
