Based on the novel series, Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, the series of the same name is a Starz drama. Now running in its sixth season Outlander has come a long way. Season 6 is based on the sixth book in the book series, A Breath of Snow and Ashes.

The latest season shows Claire, played by Caitriona Balfe, and Jamie, played by Sam Heughan, living through life at the Fraser's Ridge residence as they live in colonial America. Once seemingly peaceful, Fraser's Ridge is now expanding with new residents pouring in.

Hence, the balance has been shifting for a while now. The characters are in dire need to defend their family and their hometown from the oncoming dangers.

The series has done great until now, and the story has been immensely captivating. Needless to say, fans have high expectations from the series and are eager to see the things play out.

The cast of the series is also very excited to take their journey along the season. Balfe and Heughan recently shared what their fans can expect from the latest season installment of Outlander.

Talking with Collider, they shared how the eight-episode season is sufficient enough to carry the story of the series ahead and how difficult it was for them to shoot in times like the pandemic. They also shared their casting process and how they think the audience will react once the season comes to an end.

Outlander fans were waiting for the new season for a long time as the last season had aired in 2020. Hence, the cast was eager to give the audience something.

The writers have been specifically focused on the journey of Claire as she tries healing from the terrifying events she was made to endure last season. Her trauma is heartbreaking, and it is shared by everyone in her family.

They are collectively learning to heal together and grow from the experience. It is important to show this kind of conversation "out there", said Balfe.

Though the fans now know that the season will last only for eight episodes, the cast was not aware in the first place. Hence, they were spared the pressure that they would have faced wrapping greater narratives into a small time frame.

Outlander is a series that has always taken time to evolve its story, and the actors are happy that they "got to cover" the ground and do work together. Balfe also appreciated Sam for his work during the flashback scenes and how important it is to look at the story of Jamie and Mr. Christie.

The extended episode helped build the "backstory" of the Christies and what they stand to show in the series. Naturally, it was not an easy episode to shoot, especially because of the COVID protocols.

The season built in intensity and tension as they shot towards the season finale. The whole of it could be seen as a build-up to the Revolutionary war.

Despite the pandemic, the cast made the most out of their work and appreciated better days. They had to film in Scotland, where it was winter, and the roads were devoid of people. The conditions were exciting and terrifying at the same time.

The production was very adamant to keep things safe, and they had their own testing center. As the cast came back to each other, they fell to the rhythm of their work as a family, and everything went well after that.

They also realized that they were privileged to have the company of people and tests while many others struggled. The first lockdown was the same for everybody as everyone tried figuring out how to get by the pandemic.

But the cast soon got to get back to their work to do what they loved, and to the people they loved. The production made sure everyone was safe and complied with the pandemic protocols.

They kept reminding people to wear masks, isolate and stand apart when in groups. The cast adapted to all the new rules and was back to being the "tight-knit" group they are.

Of course, it meant they could not see the other people's emotions as well due to the masks and that made it difficult to act and bring out the subtext. Another added inconvenience was that masks muffled speech making it difficult for people to hear.

The actor also shared that outlander season 6 will have many "iconic scenes" that fans can't wait to watch. The cast is mindful of the pressure and the expectations from them.

They have understood to break down their characters, see how they are built, and relate with the anticipation of the fans. The actors hope that the fans will realize that they have given their best.

The series airs on Starz every Saturday night.
