Remember when you were just a child, and you would spy on your toys to find out if they actually talked and walked when you were not looking? Well, all the kids from the 90s sure remember the hype of the game, and almost every child had a Buzz Lightyear toy in their room. Now, over two decades later, the film still holds a significant love in its fanbase, and the talks of the Toy Story franchise renewing for its fifth film is the best news we needed this year.

The first Toy Story film was released back in 1995 and became a widely loved computer-animated film of the time. The Toy Story 1 film opened up a universe of 'alive toys' that lived human-like lives when no one was looking. The most known characters from the series include Buzz Lightyear in Tim Allen's voice and Sheriff Woody by Tom Hanks. The two characters, first at odds with each other, soon find their friendship and regularly take on adventurous journeys hidden from the unsuspecting eyes of the humans.

The toys are owned by a boy called Andy Davis, voiced by John Morris, and the enchanting storyline was created by John Lasseter, Pete Doctor, Andrew Stanton, and Joe Ranft.

The film later set on to make three sequels, Toy Story 2, released in 1999, Toy Story 3, released in 2010, and Toy Story 4, which came almost a decade later in 2019. The four-film franchise has garnered a huge following, especially from the 90s kids who have grown up loving the iconic characters. The hit film series has since been nominated for 12 Oscars and won 4 out of those.

Apart from Buzz Lightyear and Woody, the film has featured a wide array of other iconic and hilarious characters, namely - Mr. Potato Head by Don Rickles, Mrs. Potato Head by Estelle Harris, Slinky Dog first by Jim Varney, and then Blake Clark. The series also stars John Ratzenberger as Hamm, Wallace Shawn as Rex, Annie Potts as Bo Peep, and Joan Cusack as Jessie. The latter series brought in additional characters like Tony Hale's Forky, Joe Ranft's Wheezy, Michael Keaton's Ken, Jodi Benson's Barbie, and Kelsey Grammer's Stinky Pete.

The soaring popularity of the film franchise and movie characters made it possible for the series to expand as spinoff movies, and shows took their own life spinning over the same basic plotline. One of its better shows was by Disney, released in 2019, named Forky Asks a Question. The legendary Captain America actor Chris Evans also voiced Buzz Lightyear's character in a spinoff movie named 'Lightyear,' which will screen on Disney+ in 2022. But apart from all the other spinoff movies and series, what truly needs to make a comeback is Toy Story with its 5th film, and based on a few rumors, the film could actually be happening soon!

Here is everything that has surfaced about the fifth installation in the Toy Story series!

While neither Pixar nor Disney has yet made any official announcement, Toy Story, being renewed for a fifth film, has been in talks for a long while. At least at this point, Pixar has its hand full with releasing films like Onward, Soul, and Luca, and also preparing for the release of Turning Red and Lightyear for 2022. But as soon as these films are out and running, it is likely that Pixar will devote its attention to Toy Story 5.

Apparently, when Tom Hanks finally took leave from voicing Woody over all these years, fans were extremely saddened only for producer Mark Nielsen to hint that a fifth Toy Story film could be in the queue. Hanks had opened up about bidding adieu to his character as he talked on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2019. The actor had said, "We were saying goodbye to Woody and Buzz…and it was emotional."

Soon, producer Mark Nielsen had said, "Every film we make, we treat it like it's the first and the last film we're ever going to make, so you force yourself to make it hold up. You don't get in over your skis. Whether there's another one? I don't know. If there is, it's tomorrow's problem." But it was Tim Allen who solidified hopes for the 5th movie as told by Cinemablend. He had said, "Once you've gotten to four, you're passed that trilogy, so I don't see any reason why they wouldn't do it, certainly. If you ask me, I'd say do five."

What would a fifth potential Toy Story film be like?

You couldn't expect a franchise as imaginative as Toy Story to ever go wrong with its production or direction, which sure aires the hopes for a good fifth ride with Toy Story. While we aren't sure if Tom would change his mind and voice Woody again but Tim voicing Buzz is already a given. And, of course, Pixar would make sure we get to see the other iconic characters from the series back for another round!

As Josh Colley had directed the fourth Toy Story film and had eventually won an Oscar for the Best Animated Feature in 2020, it is extremely probable that Cooley gets to sit on the director chair for the fifth movie, too. The creation team under his reign is bound to do their best!

While talks of getting to see Toy Story 5 soon are still circling, it is safe to assume it would not be as early as 2022. But as Disney has revealed the release of its two untitled productions in 2023 and then 2024, we are hopeful to see the film in the near future. So, keep your fingers crossed to witness another magnificent adventure of Woody and Buzz Lightyear!
