The 74th annual Primetime Emmy Awards are scheduled for September 12th, 2022, and will be broadcasted from the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles. The nominations were announced on July 12th, 2022.

According to reports, Chris Rock was approached to host the ceremony, but the comedian-actor has turned down the offer to host the ceremony. The reason why Chris Rock turned down the opportunity was because he is in the middle of his comedy tour for which he is very excited and is also preparing to tape his comedy special, which he will tape this fall.

Chris Rock, who has been laying low since the infamous Oscars altercation, is reportedly over the industry’s culture and is looking forward to traveling and laying low after his comedy tour. The Deadline had previously reported that actor Dwayne Johnson was also approached to host the ceremony, but he also turned down the opportunity, and he recently opened up to Entertainment Tonight on his decision to turn down the opportunity. Dwayne Johnson said that it was just a schedule but said that he was honored when they came up to him and asked, but it was just a scheduling thing because of which he had to turn it down.

The CBS comedy The Neighborhood's star, Cedric the Entertainer, hosted the Emmy Awards ceremony from the previous year. To discover outstanding talent, Emmy producers Done+Dusted in collaboration with Reginald Hudlin's Hudlin Entertainment are ready to explore outside the NBC bubble. However, finding someone to host the event has proven to be more difficult than it should be because NBC late-night comedians Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers, who have both previously presented the ceremony, reportedly have no interest in doing the job.

When it comes to Chris Rock, he is one of the leading candidates to host the Academy Awards in 2023 as well, especially after the infamous altercation between him and Will Smith after the comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith. The comedian has not properly talked about the incident yet but has mentioned it very briefly here and there during his tour. Will Smith, who has been barred from the Academy for ten years, publicly apologized to the comedian and shared a lengthy statement on social media.

Will Smith mentioned that he would like to publicly apologize to Chris Rock, mentioning that he was out of line and was wrong. Will said that there is no place for violence in the universe of love and kindness after saying that he was ashamed of himself and that his behavior did not reflect the sort of guy he wanted to be. Will Smith continued in his statement that he would like to apologize to the Academy, all the attendees, the producers of the show and everyone watching around the world along with the Williams family and the King Richard family. Will concluded by stating that he deeply regrets that his actions and behavior have stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for everyone who was present in the room that day and added that he is a work in progress and will get better. Will Smith has also been laying low since he was banned from the Academy for 10 years.

Recently, Kevin Hart, who is friends with both the actors, said to Entertainment Tonight that Will Smith is apologetic about the behavior and is currently in a better space than what he was after. Kevin added that he can only hope that the two of them find a way to find some solace in that and move past it, before adding that he just likes good energy and loves to see people be the best.

Kevin Hart also mentioned that he loves Will Smith and Chris Rock equally and he just hopes that they find a place to communicate and find peace. The actor-comedian also pointed out that Will Smith did not plan on slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars, but it happened and no one can deny that, but judging someone just because they made a bad judgment is also not the correct way of dealing with things. He lastly added that people grow up, they evolve and life goes on so people should allow Will Smith to grow and not judge him.

The actor has reportedly not apologized to the comedian in person yet and no host has been finalized for the 74th annual Primetime Emmy Awards.
