Rebecca and Miguel on This Is Us planned a great 10th wedding anniversary, but things did not take long to take a downhill direction. While the couple was enjoying their decade of love, another couple suffered after a long while of trying to make their relationship work.

Kate, played by Chrissy Mez, and Toby, played by Chris Sullivan, have reached a sad point in their long relationship. The two tried their best to keep their marriage afloat and were not very eager to split up. Yet, things didn't work out for the best, and the two are now closer than ever to divorce.

The latest episode aired was named Saturday in Park and reflected the deeply unsettling trauma that Jack Jr. was suffering from after seeing his parents fight ceaselessly. The child, played by Johnny Kincaid, wanted to stop his parents from fighting and instead go to the park. That is where the couple would actually feel happy, and Jack related it with once again becoming a happy family.

However, the little child could not mend the cracks in the relationship of his parents and only ends up worsening it as he tries heading to the park himself. Apparently, Toby had forgotten to latch Jack Jr.'s room, even after being asked to repeatedly, and Kate did not lock the front door.

The unfortunate mistakes enabled the child to go out on his own, and his visual impairment only made things worse. While he successfully managed to evade the cars as he crossed the road to the park, he ended up tripping and falling on the cement, leading to a severe injury.

Both Kate and Toby worry senselessly, seeing that Jack was missing and couldn't find where he could have gone. Finally, Rebecca discerns that Jack could have gone to the park as she finds his footprints.

They find Jack in the park immediately and take him to get stitches, and while his injury might heal soon enough, the same can not be said for the relationship between Kate and Toby. The two have a heated row in front of their house when Randall, played by Sterling K. Brown, and Kevin, played by Justin Hartley, come to Kate's rescue.

As the siblings take her side, it becomes too easy for Toby to have a flashback to the time when the three siblings had stood against Jack, played by Milo Ventimiglia, the not-so-good babysitter. Toby can only retort that Kate always finds rescue with her siblings and leaves her.

On the other hand, Kate is seen to be suffering a lot after her fight with Toby and admits that she is not sure if her marriage with her husband could work out. Apart from their marriage, their house is also on the verge of crumbling as Toby's patchwork on the house's plumbing gives way to pressure again, and leaks start sprouting throughout the place.

It only reminds him of the time when Toby was given fatherly advice to avoid this kind of situation.

The producer of the show K.J. Steinberg recently spoke about the events in the episode, especially because he wrote it, and shares what could be expected from the failed relationship of Kate and Toby.

The producer shared that the audience could still hold out hope for the couple, and there are times when they are identifying where they went wrong. If they do their best to hold both the seems and connect with each other, there is a chance that they could continue to be a couple. Otherwise, things are already done for the two.

Needless to say, the audience has always seen that Kate and Toby work with the best of intentions in their heart and always showed love for each other. But with both of them growing apart, their connection has really suffered.

While there is hope, the producer cleared that it alone can not work in their favor. They will actually have to work to maintain their relationship if they do not want to split up for good.

The two might give all of their heart and soul to make it work but only when they actually find what's troubling their relationship will they get the chance to make it better. Things will turn out to be different than what they first thought and what the audience has expected until now. But the couple has to reach that place first.

The most important aspect of their relationship is their son Jack. While he is not blessed with sight, the young child can feel what is going on around him, how his parents are faring, and if they are doing good as a couple. Though young, he understands what the truth is.

Though adults try believing in lies to feel that everything is okay, children feel the reality of situations. Kate and Toby are not ready to admit that there is something seriously wrong with their relationship, but Jack, who feels things instead of seeing, can vouch for this,

The fights of his parents are having an adverse effect on him and he is going through a trauma that no other person in the series can understand.

The producer explained that the shuffling between the past and present timelines, along with showing the mentality of Jack as he lives through the conflict of his parents has added another dimension to This Is Us. The narration through Jack's point of view has opened another window into what marriages can really be like.

Now, the audience can't wait but wish to see how Kate and Toby will fare in their relationship. The two could do something that benefits them, and it will be a matter of time for the audience to accept their decisions.
