Nicole Kidman, who recently starred in ‘Being the Ricardos’ as Lucille Ball, shut down the rumors that she was comparing the I Love Lucy pair with her marriage to actor Tom Cruise.

During a recent interview with The Guardian, Nicole Kidman spoke about her new movie, which has managed to capture the attention of the audience and received a positive response. The interviewer starts by listing out the themes of the movie, which are ideas of home, family, marriage, power and how gender complicates that, and motherhood, to which Nicole says, "Well that’s just it. That’s my whole life. I love that you can describe the film, and then it correlates to my life. Isn’t that fantastic? "

Talking about the movie, Nicole Kidman states, "It’s about a creative and romantic relationship that doesn’t work out. But from it came some extraordinary things. And I love that. I love that it’s not a happy ending. This film says you can make an extraordinary relationship thrive and leave remnants of it that exist forever. Yeah, that’s really gorgeous. You can’t make people behave the way you want them to, and sometimes you’re going to fall in love with someone who isn’t going to be the person you spend the rest of your life with. And I think that’s all very relatable. You may have kids with them. You may not know, but they were very much in love. " And the immediate response of the interviewer was, "Is this her way of expressing thoughts about Tom Cruise and her marriage?"

Nicole instantly with a sense of irritation replied, "Oh, my God, no, no. Absolutely not. Not at all. I mean, that’s, honestly, so long ago that it isn’t in this equation. So no. And I would ask not to be pigeonholed that way, either. It feels almost sexist to me, because I’m not sure if anyone would say that to a man. And at some point, you go, "Give me my life." in its own right."

Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise were married from 1990 to 2001, and the couple has two children, Isabella and Connor. The two of them were known to be the "IT" couple and were extremely popular in a way that everybody wanted to know where they were and what they were up to.

Nicole and Tom met during the filming of "Days of Thunder" and tied the knot a year later in 1990, which followed various red carpet events, interviews, and a lot of love from the audience for the couple. They were termed as soul mates, and when the news of their divorce hit the media, everyone questioned what might have gone wrong in their "fantastic marriage". Although the reasons for their divorce are still known only to the couple, according to rumors, Nicole Kidman did not agree to Tom Cruise’s participation in Scientology, but nothing has been confirmed till today.

In 2002, Nicole Kidman shared with Vanity Fair that Tom Cruise swept her off her feet. "I fell madly, passionately in love. And as happens when you fall in love, my whole plan in terms of what I wanted for my life — I was like, "Forget it. This is it." I was consumed by it, willingly. And I was desperate to have a baby with him. I didn’t care if we were married", she said.  After the couple adopted two children, Isabella and Connor, Tom told Vanity Fair in 1994, "Seeing Nicole with Isabella, I see a whole other side to her. Sometimes, I just stand back and watch. Or I’ll walk up the stairs and just stand there and listen to them play. Sometimes, Nicole will forget to turn that little baby-speaker thing off, and I’ll just sit there and listen to them. Those are the little moments in life when you stop and think, I want to make sure I’ll remember this forever."

Eventually, in 2001, the news of a couple of breaking up was devastating for Nicole herself, and she told the publication in 2002, "My life collapsed. People ran from me because suddenly it was "Oh, my God! It’s over for her now! I think [the marriage] would have come down to it. I suppose it wasn’t meant to be. What I see now is a 9-year-old little girl who [the divorce] affected, and I see a 7-year-old boy and my duty as a mother. It means for the rest of my life I have to do things to protect and help them and make them happy. That sounds so old-fashioned and strange. I don’t know why that’s in me, but it is. "

In one of his interviews with Vanity Fair, Tom Cruise also addressed the split and shared, "She knows why, and I know why. She’s the mother of my children, and I wish her well. And I think that you just move on. And I don’t say that lightly. I don’t say that with anything. Things happen in life, and you do everything you can, and in every possible way, but there’s a point at which you just sometimes have to face the brutal reality. "

In September 2021, during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Nicole Kidman spoke about the scrutiny she faced while the couple went through a messy divorce. She said, "I was young. I think I offered it up. Maybe I've gotten a bit more trepidatious, but I'm always trying to be as open as possible. I just prefer to live in the world that way. I'm wary at times, and I've been hurt, but at the same time, I prefer a warm approach to a prickly shutdown approach. My husband, Keith Urban, says that when he met me, he said, "How's your heart?" And I responded, "'Open.'"

On being asked about her relationship with her oldest children in 2018, Nicole Kidman said, "I'm very private about all that. I have to protect all those relationships. I know that I would give up my life for my children because that's what my purpose is. " Nicole Kidman went on to marry country singer Keith Urban in 2006, and the couple is going stronger than ever. Whereas Tom Cruise went on to marry Katie Holmes before they decided to split in 2012.
