Adam Brody criticizes the marketing strategies for "Jennifer’s Body."

Actor Adam Brody, who co-starred in 2009’s "cult movie" "Jennifer’s Body" alongside Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried, recently shared how he did not like the marketing strategy for the movie during his recent interview with The Independent.

Adam Brody, who spoke to The Independent about his new show titled "Fleishman Is in Trouble," spoke about how he did not agree with how their 2009 movie "Jennifer’s Body" was marketed to the audience, stating that the movie with Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried became a punching bag after it earned poor reviews and failed to generate much attention from the audiences at the box office.

The actor, while recalling his initial impression of the movie, said that it was derided at the time and that felt a little unwarranted because he saw it early and thought the movie was great. He was really happy with it and pleasantly surprised. Adam said he thought it would be good, and he liked it more than he thought he would, adding that to having such tepid reviews and the box office, etc., felt, in a way, like a punching bag to him.

Adam Brody said during the conversation that it was not his movie, so he did not take the brunt of it, but he still felt like it was not right. Over time, Jennifer’s Body has grown to have its cult following, and talking about the same thing, Adam said that it has been lovely to have it take its place in the pantheon of horror-comedy, heavily metaphorical movies.

The actor explained that after actress Megan Fox rose to fame after she starred in the Transformers series, the makers started to strategize their marketing plans for "Jennifer’s Body" around her, thinking that they couldn’t miss the mark any harder to promote the movie. Adam Brody recalled the movie poster and explained that the movie is about various things, including the sisterhood that has corroded, and one does not have both friends on the poster, but it was just Megan Fox and nothing that she wore in the movie.

The actor who portrayed the character of Nikolai Wolf in the movie said that he thought there were such great visuals in the movie and he couldn’t believe that the makers did not opt to use those but instead focused on her, adding that according to him, it was the marketing person’s dream and he felt like they were shying away from it. Adam Brody said that the movie was directed by a woman, Karyn Kusama, who starred two women, and was written by that year’s screenwriting Academy Award winner, Diablo Cody, and they decided to bury all of that. He said don't tell anyone because it doesn't matter that Diablo Cody just won an Oscar and wrote this.

Back in 2020, during an interview with Eli Roth’s History of Horror: The Uncut Podcast, actress Megan Fox admitted that she felt that the movie never really stood a chance because of her public persona at the time. Megan explained that she was being vilified a little bit at the time when the film was about to be released, and it was an interesting juxtaposition to shooting up to extreme heights of fame right before the film's release and then tearing her down beginning to happen. Megan continued that then she had this immediate fallout with someone she had worked with in the industry, and that happened right when she was on the press tour for Jennifer’s Body, so according to her, all of that sort of exploded at once.

The actress noted that she also thinks that people view her as negative, having bad intentions, or just being shallow and selfish if it could be reduced and simplified even to that. Talking about the movie finding its audience, Megan said back in 2020 that it’s a nice circle and she didn’t expect it to grow like that, but to see it being appreciated now obviously makes her feel really good, and she goes ahead to say that she is happy for Diablo and Karyn—all these people put in a lot of hard work into making a really quality project that was panned for reasons that had nothing to do with them.
