Actor Seth Rogen is questioning people’s infatuation over award ceremonies stating that maybe they don't care anymore.

In a recent interview with Insider, Seth Rogen along with Paul Rudd appeared to promote and talk about their Super Bowl commercial for Lay’s potato chips and during the conversation went ahead to question the audience and ‘movie people’ care about awards. He said, "I don't get why movie people care so much if other people care what awards we give ourselves. To me, maybe people just don't care. I don't care who wins the automobile awards. No other industry expects everyone to care about what awards they shower upon themselves. Maybe people just don't care. Maybe they did for a while and they stopped caring. And why should they?" Seth Rogen has attended Oscars previously and presented an award alongside Michael J. Fox in 2017. Although the actor has never been nominated at the Academy Awards.

The statement of the actor comes after the nominations for 94th Academy Awards were announced a few days ago by actors Tracee Ellis Ross and Leslie Jordan. Since the Oscars’ rating went down under 10 million watching because of the pandemic, which is the lowest ratings in the show’s history, the Academy is hoping to get back to the top with an interesting host. No host has been announced as of now but Seth and Paul were asked whom they think should host the show and they said, "That's a tough one. But I'm sure there are comedians out there that want to, right?"  The actors suggested Nathan Fielder from ‘Nathan for You’ or John Wilson, creator of ‘How To with John Wilson’.

In another interview, when asked about the inspiration about the ad, Seth Rogen said, "We were really just kind of making ourselves laugh and trying to think of something that we thought would be funny and interesting and maybe stand out a little bit, you know, the framework of kind of reminiscing and talking about all these memories that, you know, these-- Lay's had been there for in our past was kind of the jumping-off point. And yeah, I think, you know, in an attempt to just, you know, entertain ourselves and others, we thought of what-- where could this go? And-- and we landed where we landed."

The actors were also asked if they were ever asked or approached to host the Oscars in the past and Seth Rogen said, “Maybe a soft conversation” whereas Paul Rudd said, “Most people who are acting badly are doing so from a very simple place. I don’t think I would be a good host". Seth Rogen who recently appeared in Hulu’s ‘Pam & Tommy’ as Rand Gauthier shared in his interview with Variety, “I wanted to play Rand as someone who has very little going on in his head. Someone who’s ultimately evil acts is done…out of a complete lack of thinking.” Seth explained that his version of Rand Gauthier is a combination of impulsive, thoughtless, and downright dumb.

The Academy changed course for 2022 by returning to a setlist of 10 best picture nominees, hoping that it might open the door for more popular films to compete for the top prize. Although, Marvel’s ‘Spider-Man: No way Home’ did not make it to the list which according to Jimmy Kimmel is the biggest snub at the award ceremony. Jimmy Kimmel said, “The biggest snub in my opinion, and I am actually even angry about this I am embarrassed to say, is the unforgivable omission of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home?’, Why do Best Picture nominees have to be serious? When did that become a prerequisite for getting nominated for an Academy Award?” He went ahead and slammed the nomination of Adam McKay’s recent release “Don’t Look Up”, and said, “You’re telling me ‘Don’t Look Up’ was better than ‘Spider-Man?’ It most certainly was not. Even if you go by the critic's reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, ‘Don’t Look Up’ got a 46 percent and ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ has 90 percent. For god’s sake, ‘Jackass Forever’ has an 89 percent.”

The host added, “You want to know what happened? Voters looked at the list and saw the names Leonardo DiCaprio and Meryl Streep and they checked the box for ‘Don’t Look Up’ and then they put their kids in the car and went to see the movie ‘Spider-Man.’ And they loved it! But they didn’t vote for it.” The 94th Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled to be held on 27th March 2022 at the Dolby Theatre.
