Amber Heard reacts to Johnny Depp’s message about moving forward.
Johnny Depp has joined TikTok after the verdict of his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard was announced last week and has about 4.6 million followers already. The actor shared his first video, which is set against Love Joy’s reggae song ‘Stranger’. Johnny Depp is seen waving at his supporters who were present outside the Fairfax County Court, Virginia, along with the ones who attended his recent performance with Jeff Beck.
Johnny Depp used the opportunity to thank his most treasured, loyal, and unwavering supporters and added that they have been everywhere together, seen everything, walked on the same road, and did the right thing together only because the fans cared so much. Johnny Depp added that now, everyone is moving forward and he mentioned a thank you to everyone for their undying support.
Amber Heard is displeased with Johnny Depp's decision to join TikTok and move forward, as the actress' representative, David Shane, stated that while the actor is progressing, women's rights are regressing, before adding that the verdict does not send the right message to victims of domestic violence and abuse, who will be afraid to speak up.
It was reported by Amber Heard’s attorney, Elaine Bredehoft, that the actress is heartbroken and disappointed with the verdict, as she feels the burden of not being able to get justice and her heart goes out to all the women out there. Amber, in her statement, also said that even though she had a mountain of proof against Johnny Depp, she was not able to make the jury believe her over her ex-husband’s attorney, who succeeded in making the jury overlook the key issue of freedom of speech. The actress added that what makes her sadder is the fact that the verdict is going to be a setback for women and she seems to have lost a right she thought she had as an American.
Johnny Depp, in his statement, thanked everyone for the time and effort they had put in for six weeks and mentioned that six years later, the jury gave him his life back. The actor’s goal was always to speak the truth, and he seemed grateful that the truth was laid out in front of everyone and that now they all could move on and added that the best is yet to come. Johnny Depp, in his statement, also added that he hopes that his quest to have the truth be told will help or have helped men and women to speak up if they have ever found themselves in the same position as him.
Elaine Bredehoft mentioned during her interviews that Amber Heard does not have the money to pay Johnny Depp, but she is planning to appeal the verdict and has some great grounds for that. The attorney said that there was some evidence that was not allowed in this case but was presented in the U.K. trial in which Johnny Depp lost and team Amber Heard was not allowed to tell the jury that Johnny Depp lost the case in the U.K. and it was stated that the title "wife-beater" was substantially true.
The jury decided that Johnny Depp was able to establish that the op-ed authored by Amber Heard in 2018 defamed him and his reputation, and awarded him $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages, but the award was reduced to $10.35 million due to Virginia law. Amber Heard was given $2 million in compensatory damages but no punitive penalties after winning one of the three slander claims.
