According to reports, Michelle Young has taken a step back from teaching, as she shared in the latest episode of her Bachelor Happy Hour podcast that she has decided to take a break from her job as a fifth-grade teacher after this school year wraps up.
The reality star claimed on the podcast that she was seated with a coworker when the issue of how long they had been in survival mode came up. She was taken aback when asked how long she had been in survival mode, and she had to ponder for a while before responding that she had been in it for two years.
Michelle Young revealed that she has been living on the edge for more than two years, flying by the seat of her trousers but not living. She said that she was just surviving the pandemic, going through these weird, but great changes with the show, acquiring a fiancé, Nayte Olukoya, to whom she got engaged on the last episode of The Bachelorette in 2021, and a lot was going on.
Michelle claimed that she felt she needed to make a change after reflecting on her "double existence" over the past two years. She explained that when she sat and considered leading a double life and making some important changes in her life, she considered her current situation, which just emphasizes how much is wrong with the educational system. During the episode, Michelle Young began to cry and stated that she had decided to leave the classroom as the new school year begins.
Michelle made her decision for two reasons, she said, to take care of herself and because she feels a "basis" of enthusiasm for what she does start to crack during the pandemic. She said that anyone can go and ask pretty much every teacher and they'll tell you that the pandemic has made the previous two years incredibly challenging. She added that the foundation was already beginning to collapse before the pandemic and these things just keep building up, and we've started calling it a gigantic game of Jenga.
The reality TV personality revealed that she recognizes she is known as Ms. Michelle Young, the Bachelorette, which is a wonderful thing, but there is also this pressure that she has always had, which is to be a teacher, and that she loves teaching but is also burned out on it. The Bachelorette star went on to say that she is more than just a teacher and that she admires and respects the teachers who will be returning to the classroom next year, as well as the teachers and educators who will not be returning who can make that difficult decision.
Michelle Young concluded that her decision for taking a break from the current school year does not rule out the possibility of returning to teaching in the future. She further clarified that this does not imply that she would get a master's degree in administration and return to that field of study.
The reality star, who previously stated her desire to be a school principal, explained that for now, it means she is taking a year off to capitalize on and push forward with her passion in a new way. She concluded that she did her hardest to press for the change since staying in the classroom and seeing and feeling that weight just shows her that something has to be done.
On the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast in 2021, Michelle Young acknowledged having a "double life" as a TV personality and teacher. She added that she feels like she's been living a parallel life right now, which includes lesson planning in the hair and beauty chair on the way to the premiere luncheon. The reality star went on to say that while it's busy, demanding, and exhausting, being back in the classroom has helped her feel like herself again.
