Actress Scarlett Johansson gets candid about her the spotlight scare during pregnancy!

During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the Black Widow actress shared that there was a reason why she was highly protective and private about her pregnancies. The actress shares a daughter Rose Dorothy with ex-husband Romain Dauriac and a son Cosmo with husband Colin Jost.

Scarlett Johansson who was promoting her skincare brand ‘The Outset’ mentioned that becoming a mother had served a great deal for her skincare brand. She said that she understands that having children is the biggest change someone can adapt to and with her having two of them she clearly does understand the situation. The actress went onto explain that after her daughter Rose was born, it took her a great amount of time to have that new-beginning feeling as she was in the phase where a mother is connected to her baby and wants to dedicate all her time to the new born. But then Scarlett added that she went back to work pretty quickly after that trying to maintain work-life balance which was probably a lie. 

The actress shared that until her daughter who is now 7 years old turned two, she couldn’t rediscover herself. Scarlett mentioned that she ended up thinking about what is the most important thing to her and added, “I felt like the work that I was doing and the choices that I was making personally should be intentional in a certain kind of way, where I didn't want to feel like life was happening to me. I knew more what I didn't want in my life and in my career."

Scarlett then went ahead to share candidly that she safeguarded her pregnancies because she did not feel like she needs to be under a spotlight where the people would inspect or examine her every move. The actress wanted time and space to process the changes she had been going through during her pregnancies that included her body and feelings. Scarlett who was known as the sex symbol in the industry did not want to see herself from someone else’s point of view, negative or positive.

According to the actress it was when she was pregnant with her son she joined the dots about how pregnant women have to deal with people’s judgments, expectations, and hopes. She also noticed that she was criticized by a lot of women while she was pregnant. She mentioned that while she was thrilled to be pregnant in some ways, she was not feeling great about it at the same time because she started to have feelings about being scrutinized. "I'm talking about, like, women that were close to me. You expect it from men, but from women, it's like, 'Come on, girl, you've been through it.", she added.

Scarlett mentioned about a friend during an interview that even though she had an idea that Scarlett and Colin are trying to get pregnant when she told her, she reacted by saying, ‘Oh shit. Great. But not great.’ The actress who has always stood up for the women added that in recent years she has seen some progress for the women but there is a long way for women to go to be able to live their lives the way they want. The actress lastly added that so much judgment by society for a woman is just crazy and eventually they should stop.

In her interview with InStyle, Scarlett shared that her daughter is curious about a lot of things and she keeps asking her about everything that Scarlett is doing on a daily basis. But on the whole, the actress feels really lucky to have wonderful and healthy children and she enjoys her motherhood as much as she enjoys her work.
