Stranger Things is back with another season, finally! The latest season of the show, season 4, is to make its debut on May 27, with its second part following right after on July 1. In fact, the series also announced that it will be renewing for another season soon enough, but sadly, Stranger Things season 5 will be the final season of the show.

The cast and the director of the series acted pretty coy for a long while when asked about season 4 until the fall last year. When Collider asked Shawn Levy if the series is going to come with season 4 of the show soon, Shawn Levy had said, "All I can say about the release is by the time this airs we'll at least have given the world a ballpark, and I'm not allowed to say more. By the time Free Guy comes out, August 13. Part of that answer will be known."

Last year, the series had released a small teaser trailer, which had confirmed that the release date was pushed until 2022.

In fact, it was the pandemic that forced the hands of the creators, adding up to the days that passed with no news of a new season release. "As much as it pains our viewers, that it will have been so long," said Levy about the gap between the release of season 3 and season 4 and of the eagerness with which the fans awaited a new season. "It is a kind of perfect storm, combination of COVID shutdown, slower pace of filming in COVID protocols and health protocols, which are necessary."

He added, "And coincidentally, we chose season four to be by far, and I mean, by far, far, far, the most ambitious of the seasons, it's already known that we, in fact, I think that we put on the internet right, as the pandemic was starting, I was over in Lithuania with David Harbour shooting that piece, that revealed Hopper's alive." "

So you kind of know we've got some action in Hopkins," he revealed. "We got some action. Apparently in Russia, we have an entire storyline set elsewhere that will soon come to light. So this is the first season where we have this sprawling geography, multiple location shoots, and we're doing it all against a backdrop of a world that has made filming slower, longer, and delayed. So that's why it's taking so long."

Now, though fans are very happy for season 5 to be announced, it is said to think that Stranger Things 5 is the last of the show that we will get to see. Even back in the time, Levy was very sure of the fact that the series would continue only for 5 seasons before its ultimate end.

Saying that they will not go beyond the five-season mark, Levy shared, "I have the end in sight. The brothers have the end in sight. There is a plan and that too will be shared not quite as soon as a sense of when season four is coming out but soon enough. I can say this. No one is making it up as we go along, and there is an end game."

Still, fans can stay assured that one day in time, sooner or later, there can be a spinoff or a reboot show for Stranger things. The season has made quite a dent in Netflix ratings and views, and hence there is a considerable demand from the streaming service to continue on with the universe.

Revealing the grand success of Stranger things on Netflix, Levy disclosed, "I'd say what's been made clear is this is obviously a tent pole, arguably the tent pole franchise in the history of Netflix. Obviously, certain other shows played key roles in their evolution, but Stranger Things with 196 million viewers over the time that we've been on the air, that's a lot of households, 196 million. And it's unique in that Netflix service."

Hence, on the off-chance, fans might get to see a renewal of the Upside Down universe.

"What's been made clear is there is an interest and a real voracious appetite for any offshoot, any other iteration format or extension of the franchise, the characters, the mythology," said the director. "Certainly, those conversations are hardly evolved, but they're also not non-existent, boy did I dance around that one. And you cannot take those words and turn it into a headline, that's like Stranger Things, executive producer Shawn Levy confirmed spinoff because I didn't do that."

The director shared some of the ideas that he has for continuing the franchise of the magical world that Stranger Things is. The show is very closely coordinated by Matt, and Ross Duffer, and Shawn Levy. Being controlled by this group, the ideas for the new franchise will certainly stay fresh without many other contributing factors that might change the authenticity of the show.

Explaining the delay that it takes to produce a single season of Stranger Things, the director said, "The reason Stranger Things takes so long is everything is handmade by a very small group of us. I think we spoke about that at Comic-Con, Steve. The brothers, they want to direct a certain number of episodes every year, I have to direct my episodes every year."

"We have to be in the edit room and lay hands on all of it ourselves," he continued. "So there's no if you look at the show, there's no like 12 executive producers, it's still a very small group and the controls are rigorous on each episode and on anything that the franchise does, whether it's the drive-through experience in LA or a Nike sneaker that was put out in the summer of 2019, we see and to approve it all."
