Former One Direction member Zayn Malik and supermodel Gigi Hadid started dating in 2015 before calling it quits in 2018, but then in the early 2020s, they rekindled their romance and welcomed their daughter Khai in September 2020. It was also reported that after the couple broke up in 2018, they were seen packing on the PDA in New York City two months later, but in 2019, Gigi called it quits.
The couple called it quits in 2019 because, according to reports, the singer had "a lot of his own issues that couldn’t help him get through". The source continued that the supermodel decided to cut herself off from her friends every time the couple was together and just focus all her energy and time on Zayn, but she felt like it was getting too much for her. But eventually, because of the love and support they had for each other, they found their way back to each other.
Just a few days ago, Zayn, who is a private person and stays away from social media as much as he can, shared a cryptic note on his Twitter account, "‘As you all know, I am a private person and I very much want to create a safe and private space for my daughter to grow up in. A place where private family matters aren’t thrown on the world stage for all to poke and pick apart. ‘In an effort to protect that space for her, I agreed not to contest claims arising from an argument I had with a family member of my partner’s who entered our home while my partner was away several weeks ago. This was and still should be a private matter, but it seems for now there is divisiveness and, despite my efforts to restore us to a peaceful family environment that will allow me to co-parent my daughter in a manner she deserves, this has been "leaked" to the press. I am hopeful for healing and for all involved with the harsh words shared. But more importantly, I remain vigilant to protect Khai and give her the privacy she deserves. "
This cryptic note from the singer confused a lot of fans about what he was talking about until later news came in that Zayn Malik allegedly got physical with Yolanda Hadid, Gigi’s mother, during an incident on September 29th, 2021 at his home on a Pennsylvania farm. The details of the fight remained under wraps until TMZ published that Zayn ‘struck’ Yolanda Hadid and she would probably go ahead and press charges against him.

According to reports, Yolanda Hadid claimed that Zayn "grabbed and shoved her into a dresser, causing mental anguish and physical pain." Yolanda also alleged that the singer called her "a f–king Dutch slut" and told her to "stay away from [my] f–king daughter." The court documents allege that Zayn Malik engaged in "continuous cursing" toward Yolanda, telling Gigi’s mother that Khai is a result of "the f—king sperm that came out of [my] f—king c—k." There was news about Yolanda Hadid leaking Khai’s picture to the public, even when the couple decided to keep their daughter away from the paparazzi as much as they can or until she is old enough to understand it.
According to the court documents, Zayn yelled at Gigi over the phone, stating, "Strap on some f—king balls and defend your partner against your f—king mother in my house." A third party named John McMahon, who is reportedly Yolanda Hadid’s security guard, accused Malik of "attempting to physically engage in a fight" while "continually cursing at him." The singer allegedly told John to "get the f—k out of my f—king house, copper."
Following his cryptic note shared on his social media, Zayn Malik directly addressed the allegations in a statement to TMZ on October 28 where he mentioned, "I adamantly deny striking Yolanda Hadid and for the sake of my daughter I decline to give any further details and I hope that Yolanda will reconsider her false allegations and move towards healing these family issues in private." A spokesperson for the supermodel told the US, "Gigi is solely focused on what is best for Khai. She asks for privacy during this time. "
Within a few hours of the news breaking, an insider revealed that Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid had decided to split up but would try to figure out how to co-parent their daughter Khai. The news of the couple’s breakup was followed by the news that Zayn Malik had been charged with four criminal offenses of harassment. He pleaded no contest to the charges. In addition to being fined, Malik was placed on 90-day probation for each charge, accumulating to 360 days total. The terms of his probation include an anger management class, a domestic violence program, and having no contact with Yolanda or McMahon.
The paper suggests, "Should within six months of no violations, if all conditions and financial obligations are satisfied, there is no objection to terminating probation at that time.".
Supermodel, Gigi Hadid’s siblings, Bella Hadid and Anwar Hadid, and his girlfriend and singer, Dua Lipa, have unfollowed Zayn Malik on Instagram. Bella Hadid took to her social media to share a cryptic message as the allegations first made headlines. "I can do nothing for you but work on myself. You can do nothing for me but work on yourself," the quote read.
Zayn Malik’s sister Waliyha Malik shared a screenshot of her brother’s initial statement, writing, "@zayn, you are so loved by us all." She also posted a quote on her social media that read, "Karma comes after everyone eventually. You can’t get away with screwing people over your whole life, I don’t care who you are. What goes around comes. That’s how int [SIC] works. Sooner or later the universe will serve you the revenge that you deserve."
In July, speaking to Harper's Bazaar, Gigi Hadid revealed that while Zayn Malik had originally been "overwhelmed" by her lively family, he'd learned to find his place. "He is very comfortable," she said. "He speaks his mind." She also shared that Zayn and Yolanda share a good bond and Zayn usually takes Yolanda’s side. Despite all of the chaos, Gigi stands by the fact that Zayn Malik is a good father to their daughter and the entire family knows this.

It is known to most people that Zayn Malik has been struggling with his "personal demons" for years now, including anxiety, struggles with fame, etc., and that is one of the reasons he stays off-stage and social media, and Gigi Hadid has helped him to ease and feel comfortable. But sources close to the couple have stated that Yolanda is keen on ‘curing’ Zayn of his anxiety issues, and once had a weird-intervention type situation.
A friend of theirs shared, "Yolanda had six holistic healers chanting and throwing frankincense on Zayn, even speaking in toughies! It was a scene from a horror movie. A doctor had told the singer that he needed his blood drained and replaced with ‘non-anxious blood’." Later, Zayn confronted his partner, saying that while her mother meant well for him, this was just going to make his anxiety worse.
It is to be noted that neither Zayn Malik nor Gigi Hadid has addressed their breakup officially, but it has been reported by a source. Both of them are great parents to Khai and are not currently fighting over the issue, but trying to mend things to make it work for their baby girl. Fans have outpoured their love for the singer, supermodel and their daughter on social media especially the ones who are aware of Zayn's anxiety issues. Zayn Malik was the first one to leave the band One Direction and start his solo career whereas Gigi Hadid is one of the top models in the industry. The couple might have decided to go their separate ways but the sources claim that they deeply care about each other but right now it's over for the two of them and they will only work together as parents to Khai.
Yolanda Hadid has not yet commented on the incident as of now.
