Nick Cannon and Alyssa Scott are honoring their late son, Zen.

Nick Cannon and Alyssa Scott who were parents to their son Zen who unfortunately passed away from brain cancer in December at five months old are honoring him on what would have been his first birthday.

The duo took to their social media and shared in a joint post that with a lovely lighting ceremony to celebrate the life of an angel, June 23rd will always be a day of joy. The couple announced the creation of a new foundation in honor of their late son with the goal of supporting worldwide excellence in pediatric healthcare, bereavement treatment, and hope for families and children in need. They uploaded a photo of themselves releasing a light lantern into the sky.

Zen's birthday has now become "Zen's Light," according to Nick Cannon and Alyssa Scott's article, and they are thrilled to announce that the new foundation will benefit so many other individuals throughout the world. Nick and Alyssa continued by expressing their gratitude to everyone who came to the inaugural event conducted in honor of their son.

The couple affirmed that the heartfelt occasion won't be the last of its type and said they couldn't wait for the Lighting Gala to grow and support other families through difficult times by finding a cure for pediatric cancer.

The parents were concerned about their son's health when they took him to the doctor for a sinus infection, but tests later revealed that it was something else. Nick Cannon explained that it was hydrocephalus, where fluid builds up in the head, and Zen’s head was starting to get big, and when the professionals checked, they called it a malignant tumor, and they were advised to immediate surgery.

Nick Cannon further said that doctors placed a shunt in Zen’s health and hoped for the best, but Zen’s health started to decline around Thanksgiving and the tumor started to grow fast. The parents eventually, with a very heavy heart, bid adieu to their five-month-old son.

Alyssa also shared about Zen on June 23rd on her social media, stating that at the root of all the emotions she has insurmountable love and added that she wishes Zen could be with them today. She shared that she is trying her best to remain positive but she cannot help but cry it out because it was never meant to be like this, she said. Alyssa added in her post that in her mind, Zen is smashing his cake and crawling around, tugging at her legs, but in reality, he will always be the one to blow the candles out on his first birthday.

Nick Cannon opened up about Zen’s sudden and unfortunate passing away with People, where he said that his heart is shattered. He added that they just focused on making and creating moments of joy for the baby boy and we're just seeing it as a victory every time he had a milestone. Nick Cannon recently during an interview with Men's Health described his chat with his other children about what had happened with Zen as a tough one but shared that it helped him in a way handle it. He also admitted on a podcast two months later that he carries a bag full of guilt around because he didn't spend more time with Zen and that working hard helps him deal with the guilt since he feels like he's providing for others.
