Kid Cudi talks about the nearing end of his music career.
During a conversation with Sean Evans, Kid Cudi was asked if there are any artists he looks up to as paradigms for how to age as an artist, to which Kid Cudi replied that he does not feel like he has what artists like Nas, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, and Eminem have displayed the world that they can age well in the hip hop genre.
The rapper went on to say that he isn't sure if he wants to do music or release music albums for much longer and that he believes he is nearing the end of all things, Kid Cudi. When asked about his plans, Kid Cudi stated that he is excited to see what else he can do. Kid Cudi added that he was thinking about it and had a crazy idea a couple of years ago, but it would be cool to be a kindergarten teacher for a couple of years. He said that when he's 50, he'll infect the youth with that freshness and get them young, and those kids will just drizzle the freshness on the world while he cheers them on.
The rapper debuted his long-awaited masterpiece, Entergalactic, on Netflix on Friday, the same day he released an album of the same name. Entergalatic tells the story of Jabari, who must decide whether he can make room for love in his life after a chance encounter with his cool new photographer neighbor, Meadow. The semi-autobiographical special, created from the rapper's mind, tells a story of black love that Cudi felt was necessary to depict on-screen.
Kid Cudi spoke with Rachel Smith of Entertainment Tonight about his Entergalactic animated series, saying that he felt it was something that was needed, as a black love story told in the way that Entergalactic is shown, adding that he kind of sprinkled a lot of his hopes and dreams and what he wants out of a relationship into the series. The musician joked that any potential love interest should watch the film to get a "taste" of where his mind is when it comes to finding a partner. He explained that he means just to get a feel for where his mind is at adding that he is a sensitive and kind man.
What is the future of the Entergalactic universe? Kid Cudi stated that he hopes to expand the cast, which already includes Jessica Williams, Ty Dolla $ign, Macaulay Culkin, Timothée Chalamet, and others for the second part. He added that he means that's the hope, yeah mentioning that there is no limit and anyone could be it. He went on to explain that what he means is that he has a lot more friends who he is sure will want to be involved once they see this, and the door is wide open. Kid Cudi is excited to see who might want to participate.
Quinta Brunson, creator, and star of Abbott Elementary revealed earlier this year that Kid Cudi was one of her dream guest stars. She revealed that they know that there is one person who wants to be on the show, and they kind of had something in mind for him adding that the team will have to "decipher things" when they return to the room for season two. But once they are in the room, we'll be able to tell more stories, Quinta added that they will have more people to work with there, so they will know who we can get.
Kid Cudi stated last month that he had been working on the project for nearly three years and had always wanted to do a visual album, but that it had already been done. So he had to take a step back and come up with something new and fresh. The Entergalactic formula was ideal. The animation, combined with the music, narrated the story in a way that had never been done before.
Kid Cudi currently attached to five more projects, all of which are in various stages of development: Crater, Silent Night, Teddy, September 17th, and Real Life. Kid Cudi in early September spoke with Janine Rubenstein about his mental health while remaining ambitious. He stated that even if everything went wrong on tour and nothing happened, he would still be in a good place. He added that it's always a lot when artists go on the road, but he's been in such a great place and is so happy with everything that's been going on that he's proud of himself, man. He's just really pleased with himself and concluded that he is the happiest than he has ever been in his life.
