According to reports, Kanye West has hired a new attorney to help him in the ongoing legal battle with ex-wife Kim Kardashian.

Kanye West fired his previous attorney Chris Melcher and hired Samantha Spector ahead of the hearing to determine whether Kim Kardashian will be granted the status of ‘legally single’ or not as she requested the court back in December. Chris Melcher confirmed to People Magazine that he no longer represents the rapper and Samantha Spector would be taking over the case. 

Ye had filed an objection over Kim’s request on being granted the status of being legally single to which the beauty mogul accused Kanye West of spreading misinformation on social media bout their private matters and co-parenting. Kim Kardashian mentioned in a statement last month that if court terminates their marital status (which it did), Kanye West would be able to accept that fact that their marriage is over. 

But in the news just arrived a few hours ago, Kim Kardashian’s request has been accepted by the court and Judge Steve Cochran granted her the status of legally single. According to a source, Kim Kardashian is back to being just Kim Kardashian. The beauty mogul wasn’t present during the hearing that was held on Wednesday morning in person but she joined the session via Zoom call.

According to the reports, Kanye’s attorney did not object to Kim Kardashian being granted as the single status but listed out Ye’s request before her and the court before she was declared single. The first request from Ye was that was allowed by the court, “any right to get reimbursement of money that’s supposed to be divided up will be preserved in case either of them dies”. The judge went ahead to deny Ye’s other requests that stated that Kim would not transfer any assets she had in a trust and that if she marries someone; she would waive the ‘marital privilege’. TMZ explained that marital privilege here meant “a new spouse would not have to testify about communications he had with [Kim].”

It was also reported that after changing his attorney for the fifth time, Kanye West wants to proceed with the divorce just like Kim but his delaying tactics and confessions about working on better communication and wanting to work things out with Kim Kardashian to be a family again doesn’t support the statement. Kanye also sent a truck full of red roses to Kim's house on Valentine's Day stating that his vision is 'Krystal clear' 

One of Kanye West’s ways to delay the process of their divorce was when he filed a legal document stating that all the prenuptial agreements that were signed in California after 2002 were presumed to be invalid. West’s lawyer claimed, “California premarital agreements entered on or after January 1, 2002, are presumptively invalid. The presumption of invalidity exists until rebutted at trial or the parties ratify the agreement. We are in the early stages of the case so no ratification has occurred.”

However, Kanye West never claimed that his agreement with Kim is invalid previously and California’s law requires one of the spouses to challenge the prenuptial agreement for it to be presumed invalid. For Kanye West to challenge the agreement and presume it as invalid would need to prove that they agree was either one-sided or that either party did not agree to it voluntarily.

Kim Kardashian had previously filed a document stating that Kanye West’s recent social media posts that have been attacks on her and her boyfriend Pete Davidson have caused her ‘emotional distress’. During the video call session in the court, Kim Kardashian was asked if counseling could save her marriage and if she was sure to attain the single status to which she replied that couseling won't be able to save her marriage and she absolutely needs the single status. 

With Kim’s statement, Ye’s lawyer said that Kim Kardashian read something online and alleged that it was from Kanye and accused him of spreading false information and causing her distress. The lawyer said that the social media posts are not attached to the declaration and if Kim wants to use social media posts as evidence, then she needs to prove that they are written by the rapper himself. 

Kim Kardashian filed for divorce in February 2021 and the two of them were initially on the same page and focused on themselves and co-parenting their kids. But, recently Kanye West has been full-blown over Kim Kardashian’s boyfriend Pete Davidson and had said in a lot of his recent interviews that he does not want to break his family apart rather work on making it a whole again. But on the other hand, Kim Kardashian is pretty much clear about her stance and wants to move on in her life with kids and had requested Kanye West to work with the legal team to proceed with their divorce.
