Alley has faced backlash in recent years from those who believe she made contentious political declarations, particularly about the Jan. 6, 2021, insurgency and the war in Ukraine. During an interview with Fox Nations Tucker Carlson, she recalled how, after she first expressed her intention to vote for Donald Trump in 2016, a couple of producers with similar opinions told her that they had chosen to remain silent out of fear of losing their jobs. People tell her she is brave, but she feels stupid because when she says something she believes in, it turns into a real blackballing situation. She claims her political views cost her many famous social media followers, noting that her friends and peers had no problem with her voting for former President Barack Obama, a Democrat.

The actress described at the time that one might be cooking meth and lying in bed with hookers but be acknowledged as long as they did not consider voting for Donald Trump, trying to add that she feels like she is in the Twilight Zone. In the interview, Kirstie Alley stated that she is the same individual who opted twice for Obama, so people only liked her when she voted for Obama, and now all of them dislike her because she expressed that she wanted to vote for Trump.

Sources have stated that Scientology leader will be holding a memorial service for Kirstie Alley at the Flag Land Base in Clearwater. The actress, who grew up as a Methodist, joined Church in 1979 to help her overcome her cocaine addiction. As a long-time Scientologist — she reached the highest level of learning, Operating Thetan Level VIII — there were prompt concerns about the church's role in her medical care after her death.

Alley is the third high-profile Scientologist to die of cancer in recent years. Kelly Preston died of breast cancer in July 2020 at the age of 57. Chick Corea, the Grammy Award-winning jazz pianist, died in February 2021 at the age of 79 from a rare form of cancer. Tony Ortega stated that Scientology is opposed to psychiatric care and drugs. If a person starts taking Lexapro, for example, they will lose their standing.

However, he added that followers are not barred from seeking medical treatment if they have cancer or something similar. The church will not tell someone not to go to the hospital, noting that they will often try to take care of things first through auditing — counseling, but as has been mentioned, sometimes people go to the doctor when it's too late, which can have tragic consequences.
