Miley Cyrus and Pete Davidson had announced that they will be welcoming the New Year i.e., 2022 together with their NBC special titled Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party Hosted by Miley Cyrus and Pete Davidson. According to reports, the event was designed to capitalize on the 'Wrecking Ball', singer and stand-up comedian are very extrovert personalities, as well as to usher in the New Year with hope and positivity. Miley Cyrus and television producer Lindsay Shookus also signed on as the executive producers of the event.

In a statement last month, Jen Neal, Executive Vice President, Live Events, Special and E! News, NBCUniversal said, "In what is sure to be an exciting and fun evening, we are looking forward to partnering with Lorne Michaels and ringing in 2022 with a night of incredible entertainment, led by Miley Cyrus and Pete Davidson."

Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Miley Cyrus had previously explained, "One thing I think that gets focused on a New Year’s time is what’s to come. Being optimistic, being hopeful, about all these things that haven’t happened yet that we have no proof are going to happen. We kind of erase everything that has happened, and we forget to honour it and look backward too. I wanted to do something that’s traditional, but I knew that we would do it in a way that was unique and unconventional, and we did that by starting with going to Miami. He’ll be funny, and I’ll be naked, and together we’ve got a show. "

The show will be aired on Friday, December 31st, 2021 from 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. ET on NBC, with a live stream on Peacock. Pete and Miley started their event by rapping a lengthy parody version of Will Smith’s "Miami", which was followed by a monologue by the two about the pandemic and more. They invited Saweetie for performance and later Anitta, who performed "Faking Love."

Pete Davidson returned on-stage for his stand-up about how he was feeling out of place at such a cool event and then invited Miley Cyrus and Brandi Carlie for a performance. On-stage to perform were Jack Harlow, Lil Nas X, and others. Miley Cyrus and Pete Davidson, who have been open and vocal about their substance use, had prepared a fun sketch about the same, stating that all of that is just a "show for the cameras."

Miley said, "You can’t tell anyone this: I’ve never actually smoked pot before." These (tattoos) are like stickers I buy from Claire’s." While Pete said, "I’m not even from Staten Island." After the performance of rising rapper 24kGoldn, Miley Cyrus returned on-stage with her sister Noah Cyrus to perform a duet on her Godmother Dolly Parton’s country classic "Jolene".

As the clock ticked down to four minutes to midnight, Pete Davidson returned on-stage to engage with the audience and urged them to think about 2009 and the big events of that year that included the "miracle on the Hudson" plane landing in New York by veteran pilot Chelsey "Sully" Sullenberger and a hijacking drama on the high seas on a merchant vessel that ended with bravery by the crew led by Captain Richard Phillips. Davidson joked, "We had nothing to worry about. It was a great year for the guys who would later be played by Tom Hanks, but a bad year for pirates and geese. "

Miley Cyrus took the stage to perform her hit songs "We Can't Stop" and "Party in the USA,"  and in the middle of the performance, her top became loose and she had to leave the stage, only to return with a red blazer and joke about it. She said, while still singing her hit number, "Everybody's definitely looking at me now. I'm still wearing the most clothes that I've ever worn on stage." In the final quarter of Miley Cyrus and Pete Davidson’s New Year’s Eve, Brandi Carlie delivers her version of Bonnie Tyler’s "Total Eclipse of the Heart."

Lastly, Miley Cyrus delivered a closing showstopper performance and said to the audience, "Thank you so much, everybody, thank you." Tonight's show was all about being flexible, rolling with the punches, and making the best out of even the worst circumstances. And that resilience shouldn't end here. Let's take that into the New Year with us. We've all learned how to expect the unexpected, and rather than seeing it as a problem, let's see it as an opportunity. I wish everyone here in Miami and everyone watching from home a happy and healthy 2022. Thank you for making tonight possible. You were really all that I needed to have the ultimate party. " The special event closed with a chrysotile slate featuring a quote that said, "Every ending is a new beginning."

Happy New Year.
