Marvel Studios latest Disney+ much-hyped series Hawkeye, which marks the debut of Hailee Steinfeld’s female version of the sharpshooter, Kate Bishop, in the superhero-based franchise Marvel Cinematic Universe, being mentored by the former member of the Avengers, Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton also known as Hawkeye, who returns to reprise his Marvel role as he previously starred in studios The Avengers released in 2012, Avengers Age of Ultron released in 2015, Captain America: The Civil War released in 2016, Avengers Infinity War released in 2018, and Avengers Endgame released in 2018, followed by a cameo appearance in Scarlett Johanson’s latest standalone superhero blockbuster Black Widow released this year.

Both Marvel stars Renner and Steinfeld while making a recent appearance in an interview with Collider, spoke on how do they find the complex mentor-pupil relationship between Clint and Kate playing out in the Marvel series and how does it help in bringing and exploring different sides of the fan-favorite Hawkeye, as the fans got to see in Joss Whedon helmed 2015 film where the family-oriented side of the Marvel superhero was given hints off, probably to set the stage up for the character, keeping in mind that the studio plans its projects years ahead of their release.

“First, there are scripts and it’s in the character development. You set up characters that could be polar opposites in a lot of ways, but then they have a lot of congruent values and belief systems, and skillsets. It’s a wonderfully complicated relationship, friendship, and partnership, but it’s already set up that way. You could put these two characters in various different scenarios, and it’s gonna be a winning scenario. It really is great. It has a buddy cop feel. It has a mentor thing. There are shared experiences that they have. It’s really touching and funny. I think it’s a really dynamic relationship,” Renner began, explaining that while Clint’s relationship with Kate is complicated due to all her differences with the mentor but at the same time it is wonderful and great and funny at times.

“I would agree. It was very fun, figuring out, as we were going, the evolution of this dynamic and this relationship. There’s a really true friendship there and an understanding. Kate sees Clint as someone, despite his past, who wants to do good and wants to help people, and that’s all she wants to do in life. She’s inspired by him and motivated by him and wants to be at his level, and is very over-eager. He puts up with a lot, but she really delivers, at the end of the day,” Steinfeld chimed in elaborating that Kate’s relationship with Clint is one which is dynamic in nature, where the fans will get to how it evolves over time as she tries harder and harder to overcome the various challenges in her journey of becoming the best version of herself and doing good for people, motivated by his mentor Clint because she sees him as someone who is an inspiration and is also trying to do good for people.

In addition to Jeremy Renner in the role of Clint Barton aka Hawkeye and Hailee Steinfeld in the role of Kate Bishop, Marvel Studios Hawkeye also stars Tony Dalton in the role of Jack Duquesne, Zahn McClarnon in the role of William Lopez, Brian d'Arcy James, Alaqua Cox in the role of Maya Lopez also known as Echo, and Florence Pugh in the role of Yelena Belova also know as Black Widow.
