Director Ti West is once again ready with another slasher film, this time, X, which will release in theaters on 18 March. The film has successfully completed its World Premiere at SXSW. The good news is that a prequel to the film has already been announced.

A24 has been working for the past few years, developing a new genre named "elevated horror." The genre is a combination of jump scare films that put people on the edge of their seats, along with extended philosophies that proved to be enriching experiences.

The story stars Mia Goth from Emma as Maxine Minx and Brittany Snow from Someone Great as Bobby-Lynne Parker. The two head to a farmhouse, including their crew to film an adult film.

When they reach the farmhouse, they are greeted by their old host and his creepy wife, Pearl. Things soon turn downhill from there as the wife starts showing how truly eerie she is.

Goth and Snow shared what it was like to film their characters, how they brought them about, and what are the motivations behind these people. The film also has an amazing film-within-a-film concept.

Revealing that the shooting of the film within the film was her favorite part of making the movie, Brittany Snow told Screen Rant that it was altogether a great experience. She appreciated working with her crew, saying that they are all talented performers, and made the whole telling of the film a "funny" situation.

Snow and Ti decided to make sure the characters were serious about their craft as they prepared to shoot an independent film in the story. The overzealous approach to make sure that the movie was successful was hence overdone by the characters, making it a "really funny thing to play with."

They also made sure that the fictional independent film was made to the style of the Super 8 or modeled after the 70s films. In the end, the finishing touches were accurate and had the "old day film" vibes.

Even though the end results were great, it was difficult to play two roles for Mia in the film. She plays Pearl and also Maxine. The transformation required a lot of prosthetics but also detailed conversations so she could get both the roles right.

Mia shared that she enjoyed her conversation with Ti about the two roles as it made her understand him better. They talked on a daily basis for months, even before they actually got to meet each other for the film.

After they were done with the pre-production run, they met in New Zealand. That is where they shot the movie.

One crazy thing about the characters of Pearl and Maxine is that they are essentially the same person in terms of personality, too. They both have a similar persona, and even though they are living different lives and different situations and results, they have the same "spirit."

So when Maxine and Pearl finally cross paths, it "sparks" something in Pearl, though the realization is much silent for Maxine. The director was also very liberal and allowed her to portray the characters just as she would want it.

The director trusted her gut when it came to characters and she could prepare for Pearl and Maxine as she wanted to. It was fun for her to create these characters and have fun meanwhile.

Snow also shared that it was nice to work as Bobby-Lynne, who could easily be seen as the leader amongst the crew. She explained that she always conceived Bobby-Lynne as someone who had entrepreneurial views and hence, everyone in the crew was her team.

She respected them for their talents and valued them just as she welcomed them to her crew. Yet, she wasn't always sweet, and her own moments where she could be said stupid, mean, or anything along the lines.

The filmmakers used Dolly Parton as a reference to mold her character and to provide her character some depth. Hence, Bobby-Lynne could be seen as someone who is always in control and could use people the way she would want.
