Inside Kevin Federline’s interview with 60 Minutes Australia.

Britney Spears' ex-husband Kevin Federline’s interview with 60 Minutes Australia premiered recently in which the former background dancer got candid about his romance, wedding, and separation with Britney Spears, along with making his sons his priority and where the former couple stands right now at the moment.

Kevin Federline states that he only has his sons’ best interests in mind and that there has been no ulterior motive for the interview. Kevin went on to say that when he and Britney Spears were together, he had received massive backlash, was bombarded with all the hate and criticism stating that he was never good enough, and described that he was always like, "He is just a poor white trash loser," but added that he was built to be able to take that because it did not bother him at all. The former couple got married in October 2004, which came as a surprise to everyone, and Kevin said that everyone assumed that they were attending an engagement party, but it was a wedding.

Kevin Federline said that when Britney Spears filed for divorce in 2006, he was blindsided by it, and then getting custody of their kids became his top priority. He explained that he called his attorney and met him in Chicago and said to him that all he cared about was getting 50% of the kids’ custody.

Speaking about Britney Spears’ mental health struggles, Kevin Federline said that he was mortified for her for a long time, way past the time that people were watching, and stated that even today he still feels bad for her because he understands that it’s been hard on her. Kevin Federline continued to express his views on how he believed that Jamie Spears helped and saved Britney Spears’ life when he took over as Britney Spears’ conservator in 2008.

Kevin revealed that he was not involved in any of that, so he was not aware of how the idea or foundation of conservatorship was brought into place and a lot of it was never revealed to him, but he said that all he knew was that she had a family that was concerned about her and her father was trying every possible thing he could to help her and maybe conservatorship was a way of his saving Britney Spears, and he did. The interviewer asked Kevin Federline about their sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, views on the termination of the conservatorship, to which he said that it’s something that he maintains may not have been right.

He continued that both the kids were super happy for their mother, but sometimes it’s not about what’s right or wrong but only about what their mother wanted and what made them happy. Speaking about the stand with Britney Spears and the boys at the moment, Kevin Federline shared that the boys have decided that they are not seeing her right now and it’s been a few months since they haven’t seen her.

Kevin Federline said that the family feud is going to grab the attention of the media and the audience, but the boys still have a very normal life and he wishes the boys had the closest thing to a normal life that they can have because it’s going to help them be a better person. He mentioned that the boys see him and know that if they ever want to get away from all of it, they’ll know how to get away.

He said that he didn't know and that it was one of the trickiest things when asked what Kevin Federline would say to Britney if she were sitting next to him. Kevin said that he had tried to think about that issue because there are so many conflicting feelings there; the father in him, the ex-husband in him and he added that it's difficult to tie it all together since he would want to apologize, then provide guidance, and then ask if there's any way he can assist.

Kevin Federline clarified that the reason he was giving the interview was that he wanted to set the record straight because he had spent a huge amount of his adult life turning the other cheek in response to the attacks on him, but now the kids are involved and he felt like he needed to set the record straight for the audience.
