Tom Schwartz and Katie Maloney’s decision to go their separate ways after twelve years of together did shock a lot of people, and according to Tom’s post, it seemed like it was Katie who decided to pull the plug on their relationship, but now Tom’s telling his side of the story.
Tom Schwartz’s breakup announcement read that he was extremely sad about their breakup and was finding it hard, to sum up, their twelve years of relationship in a post for social media. The Vanderpump Rules’ star added that no matter what, he is going to respect Katie’s decision as they had a healthy, productive, and meaningful conversation about the decision, and he’d never want her to be unhappy with him.
But now, the reality TV star is clearing the air by stating that it was not Katie Maloney or his best friend Tom Sandoval's fault, but rather his own decision. He also added that, of course, he is sad because of the separation as there is a lot of love between the two of them, but he is doing okay. He clarified on why they decided to split and said that relationships get complicated but there is nothing specific on why they took the decision.
On the other hand, reports have suggested that Katie Maloney has been handling their separation better than expected and she is looking forward to what’s next in her life. The source close to the reality TV star suggested that she is aware that she’s young and can start over and find someone who makes her happy. Although a part of her will always has a soft spot for Tom, they have grown apart from each other in recent years.
In her appearance on her "You’re Going to Love Me" podcast episode, Katie Maloney shared that she felt disconnected and felt like she was drifting away from Tom Schwartz. Their decision to separate was not an overnight decision; it had been building up for months and they had been talking about it as well. She confirmed that they had been separated for over a month and she was the one who decided to end it.
Katie shared that deciding to separate from someone she'd loved for so long was hard for her, and telling Tom Schwartz about the feeling of disconnect and drifting away was even harder because she knew it would crush him. She added that all of these things have been very emotional for them, but she is glad that it’s not ugly and there is no feeling of resentment. The transition has been peaceful and loving.
During the podcast, Katie Maloney revealed that they are still living together in their Village Valley home and are in the process of trying to navigate these steps and working on being friends in that sense. In her post, Katie Maloney mentioned that there are no sides for the people to pick and in her podcast episode she also mentioned that because they have a common group of friends, they are trying not to put them in an awkward spot to pick a side, so they are trying to work things through to be friends again.
Katie Maloney also explained why they decided to separate by sharing that she needed to prioritize herself and her happiness more than the relationship she was in. She explained that people need to know that there was no drama, no fight, or anything that made her come to this decision, but it was the voice inside her that kept asking her to choose herself first. She said that the fact that she never prioritized herself had started to weigh upon her and she needed to act fast.
According to reports, friends of the ex-couple have been stepping up to make the transition easy for them, especially for Katie, as she has Lala Kent and Stassi Schroeder to help her. Katie Maloney and Lala Kent, who also decided to end her relationship with Randall Emmett after he found out that he cheated on her with multiple women, are supporting each other in the best way possible as their separation is new and they are both technically in the same spot.
The reports suggested that one of the reasons for their separation was also the fact that Katie Maloney wanted a traditional marriage, but Tom Schwartz was expecting a little more, like experimental things as well, which did not align with Katie. They have not filed for the divorce right now and are kind of processing things slowly and taking a step at a time.
In January 2022, Katie Maloney spoke to Page Six and shared that the couple is not perfect and, just like every other couple, they do fight a lot and have their flaws, but they don’t try to hide the truth. She added during her podcast that when a couple is trying to act like everything’s perfect, that’s when something is not right and it’s exhausting to keep up with the act.
So it seems like Katie Maloney was the one who decided to take a decision but Tom Schwartz has been taking all the blame because he does not want audience to point questions at Katie Maloney.
